Ultimate sub 2000cc endurance racer

If its been completely stripped etc then a clio 1*2 could be good enough
too light. a stripped 182 is sub 900kg which is way too light for most endurance regs.personally i;d start with the regs for the series you intend to enter, then go from there. you want something easy to set up and adapt, yet able to upgrade the main components to take abuse. e.g. ian refers to the 120d, which can be adapted to take 5 series suspension components to take more hammer.
also you need to look at your driving style. keep it off the kerbs!
For reliability and OEM power the Honda engines seem to have it.
I did think of an 1800cc crx with a B18 as the low weight lets you run with less fuel under some regs so it is a trade of with stops.
Other wise an Honda accord euro R CL7 salons easier to work around, fit people in and put the tank on the back seat. Also the Honda K20 is a good engine, and comes with double wishbones at each corner.

Apologies for neglecting this thread.
We're finding out all kinds of interesting stuff now, perhaps unsurprising for a bunch of novice endure racers!
The 'sub 2000cc' thing is part of the regs of the race that we just competed in - www.raceofremembrance.com
The reason for the 2 litre limit is primarily due to the cost of insurance. Once the cars get up over 2l the insurance premiums fly up. As it is a charity event the decision was maed to keep it sub 2000.
However, as a team we're now keen to do more. We have access to a race prepped Nissan 350Z that was run in Britcar last year. That's one option.
I think we'll probably end up doing 2 cars - 1 as a specific RoR weapon which is under 2000cc but goes as well as we can possibly make it go (no weight restrictions either!). Then we'll also prep the big boy racer for stuff like Britcar, Spa 6hrs etc.

What's the budget? You don't have to tell me but what about a Ginetta G50? Lots about, competitive, lots of spares support from the factory and plenty of places to races them (including CSCC " New Millenium" series!)I think we'll probably end up doing 2 cars - 1 as a specific RoR weapon which is under 2000cc but goes as well as we can possibly make it go (no weight restrictions either!).
