It's Bathurst 1000 time

The cars are geared longer this year and should crack 300kph down Conrod straight
First ever all girl team new set to race
New lap record by Whincup in yesterdays practice

And Chaz Mostert destroys his car, a marshall's post, his left leg and wrist but still attempts a late anti roll bar adjustment, never give up eh......

Another fantastic year, watched this pretty much end to end yesterday evening (fast forwarding adverts and safety cars) As usual coming down to the last few laps for final positions. Weather really spiced it up once again! I really want to get out there next year, although I keep saying this!

Just seen Coulthard moving to Penske, so looks like they're really pushing the boat out for next year!

What is going on with Whincup at Bathurst he seems to go off the rails when he gets there, it's like the pressure gets to him & he makes some poor decisions.

I was hoping for another Ford win but hey.

Hmmm so I've only just got access to Motor's TV but I've already set it to record anything related and I watch them when I can. Only just enjoyed Pukekohe & Phillip Island races so just behind the times! Got the last one to watch soon (have skipped through the thread so I don't know if 'Frosty' has done enough)! smile

Is there anything to read other than wiki in preparation for next year? I know I'll be watching the whole season. But I'd like to know more about the drivers, having only seen about 4 or 5 races I like Reynolds and Lowndes (especially the latter's starts recently), and I don't like Van Gris after he turned Reynolds but the commentators were talking about history there so don't want to cast him as a villain yet.

IMO Reynolds is an arrogant arse who expects everyone to get out of his way, and often drives into them when they don't. I haven't seen much of the series this year as its no longer on free tv here, but from watching many years previously I'd rate Reynolds and Whincup as two of the dirtiest drivers. On the flipside I like Lowndes and Van Gisbergen who race hard but (generally) clean and have fantastic car control to watch on the limit.

The recent Reynolds/Van Gisbergen incident really looked to me like Reynolds did it to himself. Struggled to understand the reasoning behind Van Gis being penalised when he was backing off and trying to give racing room and Reynolds just kept cutting across until he had nowhere to go - sure Van Gis could have backed off more than he did, but Reynolds could also have given some racing room. From the in-car it sounds like Reynolds might be riding the rev-limiter instead of changing up, which may be why Van Gis backing out of the throttle wasn't enough to defuse the contact.

In that incident the reason Reynolds was on the limiter was because Gis was pushing him so he had both hands on the wheel trying not to get flicked into the wall.

Reynolds has been a lot safer in his overtakes this hence almost getting 2nd in the championship, Whincup has tried to be his usual dirty self but the other drivers haven't been taking it.

The real story for me is that Mostert hadn't been injured I reckon he would've taken the championship Prodrive lost momentum from not having his input. Van Gisbergen is a great driver, hard but normally fair.

Van Gisbergen really is a complete petrolhead too - when he isn't racing V8s he can be found doing the Daytona 24h, or the NZ Drift series, or Aussie time attack, or local club track days in his own road car (an S15 Silvia). Hasn't followed his dad into rallying quite yet, but I've heard rumours that he's slowly building a Mk2 Escort in the shed.

Van Gis in the 3rd Red Bull Holden next year will be the one to watch imo. He's arguably the quickest guy on the grid, he just needs that slightly better package to get him up at the front week in week out and the 888 team are the ones to do it.

A mate spanners for LDM and finished 3rd in the support Ute V8 series championship (he runs his Ute himself).

Van Gis quit a couple of years ago (from FPR?) only to "change" his mind and turn up at Techno. This went down none to well by all accounts.

I find the commentators and drivers interesting as they don't just follow the corporate robot praising all of the time. At times the commentators and pit lane team come across more as of a bunch of mates.

Hopefully S Sport will continue showing the V8 races next season.

Gis quit Stone Brothers Racing mainly because they were getting bought by Erebus & he didn't fancy the Merc, Jamie & him will but heads next season.

I got the impression he was also sick of the sporting politics and commercial aspects of the series. He spent quite a while dabbling in other motorsport (testing an NZRC Group N Evo, racing the NZ Supertourers series, I think thats when he took up drifting as well) before eventually taking up the offer from a small, less corporate V8 team.

So, as it looks like Motors TV are no longer showing V8 Supercars (and aren't on Sky anymore either) and I don't have BT Sport (nor do I really want to subscribe as I have no interest in football) I am looking for alternatives to watch the V8s this year. The Superview streaming service looks promising (and very reasonably priced) but there is very little information about it anywhere. Can anyone tell me if it supports Chromecast? And have they confirmed that all sessions will be available on demand as well as live?

Cheers in advance.
