RE: Jenson Button to stay at McLaren?

I feel sorry for Kev Magnussen he had a more than solid rookie year against a former WDC and hardly embarrassed himself, now he's left without a seat long after all the others have been taken. I hope McL haven't cost him his F1 career.
Me too. I'm a big JB fan, but Magnussen had a great (mature) first season. It is the right decision to choose JB.
I am more concerned about the Ron and Eric show. The past few months have displayed an appalling lack of precision and planning from a business which is meant to have these qualities as its core values.
As far as I am concerned, it is not the drivers that are on trial now, in terms of pressure to perform. The pressure to perform is firmly on Ron Dennis.

When developing a car, an experienced hand is required - selecting JB was a good choice. His previous experieince working with Honda may also help, particularly with communication (although Honda are known for changing personell around a lot, he may not be dealing eith the same people as before)
If it is a 1-year deal, hopefully in 2016 magnussen will return. he was impressive this season

He's having a dig at Alonso...nekrum said:
Looks to me as Jenson has a 1 year deal and then Magnussen takes his seat when he retires?!..
JB has only ever had short contracts. I could see him retiring at the end of this year, but don't read too much in to the length of the contract.I could see the Honda being very competitive, since it is a new engine and the other engines have had a development freeze. They don't have a full year ahead, as they have not got the info from running last year, but they will have had some help from seeing others running and using the data from the Merc engines.
JB is a very good driver, but is also very sensitive to setup. He seems to be the opposite to LH in many ways. Lewis can drive the wheels off a shopping trolley if needed, but is thrown by the smallest emotional issue (Or was. He seems to have been much stronger mentally this year, but that could be down to the belief he can have in the car to win). Jenson seems to be unphased by any personal issues or psychological games, but is like the princess and the pea with car setup.

Happy JB is staying, was a way too long time in coming with regards to an announcement and McLaren must know themselves they've really tested their fan's patience as well as those of the various driver parties involved. I feel sorry for KM through it though, he doesn't deserve to be put on the sidelines after the season he's had but I guess a lot of good drivers have been passed over the same way in the last few years. Just the way of the sport.
Will look forward to how the two work together (if they work together) in the 2015 season. Knowing McLaren, it's doubtful they'll hit the ground running with their car - almost always are on the back foot and playing catch up through a season.

People have suggested the strongest pairing being:
FA & JB; or
LH & NR.
Surprised no-one's mentioned SV & KR. Give them a car that suits their driving style (stronger front end for Kimi please but no Seb, sorry, you still can't have a blown exhaust for mid-corner down-force), eek a little more power out the engine and a better 2015 aero package, they should be exceptionally strong.
One area subject to JB's criticisms the last few seasons was his being partnered with relative novices (Perez and KM), who, in his view were unable to provide the quality of technical feedback required to sufficiently develop the car (both in pre-season testing and during the season). He shouldn't have this problem with FA. With two experienced drivers who both know what good and bad cars feel like and the most likely root cause/solution I expect a far stronger start to McLaren's 2015 season.

Based on performance, JB deserved the seat ahead of Magnussen. But he and Alonso can be no better than the car that is provided to them. With a competitive car, they will challenge Mercedes domination. Without it, all the driver skills in the world will only be worth runner up or also ran points.

Yes. I agree. I think Senna is overrated.
Don't get me wrong - the guy was top of the class even then - but his reputation has undoubtedly grown in recent years.
