how can you fulfill this " To the best of my belief the driver(s) possess(es) the standard of competence necessary for an event" if it is your first event?
Out of interest how do you know I do not " possess the standard of competence necessary "? And yes it is my first event

Not at all.

Are you marshalling or spectating?
I will be driving! First event also!
A tough one to start with!

I think I'll be spectating, I just hope they still allow you to park up mid-stage somewhere out of the way (in a safe position obviously). If it's all pens and tape I'll watch out of my cottage window!

Ay it's a tough one!
Only missed 2 Mull s in over 30 years. I wouldn't see a problem with parking mid stage as long as you and you car are in a safe place. Spectator info is usually good on Mull and the rally website is good for info.

Yeah it's never been a problem before but the new safety regs have been introduced since the last Mull and if they impose the same restrictions as they have in the woods then I can see the usually safe spots where you can park being taped off and them trying to force everyone to watch from eg Dervaig or the crossroads outside of Tob.

Seeing as there's a bit of Mull gossip on here I thought I'll join in. Absolutely full of rally fever with just over 2 weeks to go. Co-driving on Mull for the first time this year having spectated on and off for years. Sitting alongside a 17yr old. Must be mad!

Actually last year was run to the new guidelines. I think they were in draft form then.

The best way to approach it is with safety in mind. If you're in a safe place then you shouldn't be bothered. It's the small minority of people who act stupidly and selfishly who spoil it for the rest - and that's not just Mull.

I've got the Trackrod before Mull so will be a touch busy over the coming weeks.

Good luck to the. Competitors (Avenger you've got 10 years on me - are you in the blue one or the yellow?) and have fun to the spectators.

See you on the island smile

Yes it's definitely a problem in rallying at the moment. But I am sure Lock and his band of Marshalls will do where upmost to keep spectators and competitors safe on the island.
Ah the car! I use the name Avenger as I used to run a zetec powered avenger on the road but unfortunately I had to sell it. But still use the username as it's on quite a few forums now. I am using my ford puma this year.

Well Graeme good luck and nothing personal, but I hope we don't see you on the stages.

We're in the sweeper car. .....

Well I will most likely be seeded at the back will my stage rally experience being zero! Good job my navi is very experienced on the stages. Staying with some of the top runners so will be asking lots of questions! It's always good coming up and seeing some of my old school friends.

Regarding spectator safety, the recent Hamsterley Stages had the best speccy info I've seen since the new guidelines were brought in; prohibited areas were taped off, but everywhere else was okay, plus a area for less hardcore speccies was set up. This is preferable to the small 'spectator area', were elsewhere is no go - which tends to be the norm. It's then hit or miss whether the speccy area is any good.

Did the safety delegate go round the stages and give permission to run last year? I thought that had only been introduced this year. I noticed there was more tape on some stages last year, particularly near Dervaig, but where I was was pretty much tape free and I could stand where I wanted (safely obviousl!) Hopefully it'll be the same this year.

If you're sweeping please can you ask the Roads Open car to have a big huge sign on it or a different coloured flashing light so that us folk stood in the dark can actually see it?! It was a struggle to know when the road was actually open last year.

Sad to see the McRae Stages cancelled. Scottish forest rallying seems to be slowly dying out and with the extra costs next year I can't see things improving.

Don't think it's just Scottish rallying, I think it's UK rallying in general - quite a number of events have not run. Yet, 3 rounds of the relaunched BRC will be held north of the border.......

BTRDA events seem to be doing ok? Yes some rallies are not running but with a reducing pool of competitors that's to be expected. There have been too many events for years.

I don't mind the BRC calendar, I'd prefer the Manx in there but at least it's not another mainly Welsh championship.

For those of you who haven't spotted it yet, we're running a Wales Rally GB competition giving away two spaces at the media day next week including a forest stage passenger ride, and two World Rally Passes.

We're also giving away five pairs of World Rally Passes for Wales to some lucky runners up! http://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-advertorial/wal...

So I'm going to go to wales for the WRC this year… only been once before as a marshal so things were much easier (dedicated parking etc…). This time though I'm spectating…

I see on the Wales rally website that the car parks open at 8pm the night before (going for the friday stages), is it really necessary to get there the night before to get parked? Will be taking either a camper or 4x4 with roof tent so sleeping in/on the car isn't a problem.

Any tips/advice very welcome..

Cheers

I suppose it depends on where you go but in my mind I would always go as early as possible.
You can then park as close as you need without having a long way to walk.
I have marshaled for the past heaven knows how long and seen the specy parks pretty full even at silly o'clock.

Marshaling again this year....3 stages worth lick
