TCR Touring Car series
Discussion
Just watching a replay on Motors TV of the first race at Sepang (It's an F1 support race). Many Seat Leons and Honda Civics on the grid with a couple of Audi TT's. Ford Focus and Opel Astra cars will be at the second round. Car cost is €90,000 with the engine, bodywork regs look limilar to BTCC with wide arches, splitters and wings on standard shells. Engines are 300bhp 2.0 turbo (petrol or diesel), no idea if there is any 'equalisation' going on between different cars, the TT's are getting special permission to race as the rules say 4 or 5 door cars.
There's a lot less banger racing style from what I've seen so far compared to BTCC, maybe its the Sepang track but it did stretch out a bit over the race, a few tussles though.

According to the commentary there are going to be regional championships next year as well as this international series, all based on the same rules, and its all about the low costs.

There was a few nudges, but not many, presumably because on a track that big they couldn't find each other, I did giggle a bit when two cars overtook the polesitter into T1 and then both gracefully spun off.
Apparently the TT is a Leon with the different shell grafted on.
Astras/Focus didn't make it in time for the first race.
The Leons are all Eurocup cars.

If it costs 90,000 Euros thats about £65,000 so compared to the BTCC car that would cost how much about £200,000 minimum for the year.
Lots of variables that need finding out.Does the 65k include the car to keep after the season, how many races and at what tracke etc etc.
I quite enjoyed the first race of the year. Haven't seen sundays race yet. I think it is quite impressive to have a grid of around 15 for a series announced less than a year ago. I do agree though that the resources could have been put to better use to strengthen what we already have, rather than further fracturing the touring car scene.Lots of variables that need finding out.Does the 65k include the car to keep after the season, how many races and at what tracke etc etc.
Looking at the calendar and the fact there are a couple of massive long haul transports (one to buenos aires). I would be very surprised if any competitors are getting change from 300,000+ minimum plus any testing awway from weekends. (plus the 90,000 for the car, which looking at the website is the sale price for a car to this series specs)

There are TCR spec cars running this year as a class within the American USTCC series. http://www.touringcartimes.com/2014/12/20/tcr-usa-...
I don't think BTCC would do the same, as they've only just gone over to NGTC spec.

2016 calendar announced a few days ago. A shame that the UK are not hosting a round.
Seat, Honda, VW, Opel, Audi, Ford, Subaru - good range of cars there.
I watched a few races this year, and it certainly seemed better than the WTCC borefest! The races in Qatar the other Friday were awfully dull..Seat, Honda, VW, Opel, Audi, Ford, Subaru - good range of cars there.
