Caught the last hour of the race (as thats all I could find on eurosport) looked a great race.

Is there a channel that shows the whole 6 hours? Will going up to silverstone next year for sure!
The whole 6 hours was shown live yesterday on Motors TV.

Motors TV will have repeats or highlights for the next week or so. They usually do.

@daston - motors TV. In full, with the excellent RLM team on commenating duties.

@the 2 blokes above - don't write off the season based on Silverstone - it's an Audi track. spa, Le Mans have much longer straights - which plays to Porsche and Toyota somewhat more.

All 3 marques had issues as well, so reliability will factor as always in the 24 - i hope that number 8 is sturdy because surely even Audi can't make a car that can play Maldonado for 24 hours without breaking smile

First time of going to an event like this and really enjoyed it. £35 for my ticket, children free and free parking, which is all a far cry from when I go there for F1.

Roaming stand tickets, so you can move about for a different view and lots of other stuff going inside and behind the Wing building. Highly recommended for a good day out of Motorsport, I'll be going next year.

A few photos from the day.....

One thing that did surprise me; last year I thought that the Astons and 458s were loud.

Then I heard...Corvette!

Great day out. Great crowd which I reckon to be close to 50k. A bit windy and I lost my Audi flag - I'm not a fanboy and it was a freebie from a race at Donny.

F1 is simply not the pinnacle of motorsport anymore, it's quicker in the absolute sense, but that's it.
Depends how you define pinnacle. Technology yes but how many drivers are first rate F1 drivers?

How come the Toyota's are off the pace? Wanted to see them do well at Le Mans knock audi off the top..
Porsche are now running more hybrid juice than last year. Can't remember if this was mentioned in the commentary but walking past the Toyota pits their tyres suffered graining whereas Porsches looked fine - Joest Audi like to operate like an F1 team and didn't have the good chance to peek at their tyres!

One thing that stood out for me was how the loudness of a vehicle was the inverse of it's performance. Silence at the front, with the small shouty cars chasing at the back.

In fairness, though, the new chairman of the BRDC has slashed F1 ticket prices and gone on record as saying that they are ludicrously expensive. So it's probably fairer to lay the blame with Bernie than with Silverstone. But, yes, regardless of who is to blame, it is a fair comment.

The loudest bit about the Audi was when it ran over the kerbs....

I've been going to this meeting or its equivalent since 2009, and yesterday was definitely the best so far. Brilliant racing and a good experience at the track, lots to like all round.

There were a couple of utterly dismal years after the Wing opened, when there was absolutely nothing for on-site spectators beyond some appalling and overpriced food, but Silverstone have really turned it around in the last couple of years. It's now being treated as a proper spectator event, and you can really see the difference.

Anyway, a few pictures:

I love the corvette.

I took my mum to Le Mans last year and when we arrived we walked behind the main stand getting food and was calling out what the cars were by the noise.

When the corvette went passed I called it as being an Aston with a broken exhaust, she said no no that's a corvette...... She was right!

No better than previous years. IMHO.

Desperately needs pedestrian tunnel/bridge access to Wing.

Agreed. The whole '15 minute bus ride' thing is not a solution.

Thanks to everyone one who recommended I should go - I did and had a great day! I was a bit disappointed I couldn't get down the pits as I hadn't pre-booked but I knew this would be the case so wasn't a surprise. I spent most of the day walking around the circuit and watching from various places, saw the start from the start/finish straight and got back to watch the last half hour and the podium celebrations. My favourite place to watch was Maggotts - the speed the LMP1 cars held through here was incredible! Also the Corvette... what a noise! All in all it was a great day, I'm already thinking about doing the whole weekend next year.

I could be wrong but I thought one of the Gulf Astons was keeping a couple of the LMP2 cars honest? or was it just at that given point in time?

I'll upload my video of the Vette when I get a chance.
