Wow
As well as showing the absolute generosity and willingness to help out an utter stranger from the persons involved here, this thread has also shown me a difference in how people raise their children to be achievers.
I had to recite the alphabet, with a smack when I got it wrong, and now I drive trains. The OP's son is writing to the kind of people who will possibly start him out in a career that he is passionate about, and will undoubtedly with this kind of start to life, be wildly successful in.
If I ever have a child, I hope to be as inspirational a parent as the OP.

Massive thanks to the people who have replied so far, both in the forum and in the post!
My son has written several letters so far and he has lots more to do, which he is now excited and motivated to do so!
My son was buzzing this evening when I got home from work, 2 companies have sent him parcels with stickers, posters and car air-fresheners, his room stinks like something fruity and he has stickers everywhere, he is even putting stickers on my car to make it look like a race car (I drive a Ford B-max so his imagination must be good, lol).
He was 'star of the day' today for writing and he has also started a box of things to take to school at 'show and tell' when it's his turn in a couple of weeks, which is a nice turn-up for the books because we started this to improve his writing as he didn't want to try and it was an agreed 'area for improvement' at parents evening!
He's not turned into a calligraphy expert or scollar but we're seeing improvement and he is motivated, so a massive thanks again, for the people who have been in touch and given an address, you will all get letters, we're just doing it at his pace as not to make it a chore!
I don't know whether to name the excellent companies who have replied so far to publicly acknowledge their kindness or not, I should have asked in advance, for now, you know who you are and I will email some of you to check if you don't mind me publicly thanking you on the forum.

Sometimes PH is full of self destructive rubbish.
Sometimes it is awesome, like this thread.
I can't wait for my daughter to be able to write... only 2 and already cars are preferential to dolls. When we use the old MX5 she climbs in, points at the roof and says "Daddy, roof off"... regardless of weather...
