With the practice sessions almost over and qualifying beginning tonight I thought we had better get a race thread going!

We have various threads across forums for TV feeds, event discussion and what not but let's keep this one to race talk over the next few days.

I last attended in 2013 with my Dad, a baby, broken femur and house move have put paid to us going this year but he is making the trip down from Chester to watch the race with me cool

Here's to a good race!

I agree that a race thread is a good idea but I think it might be better in the LeMans forum beer

The Le Mans forum is under the events subheading, more for those attending, organising tickets, camping etc.

As suggested in this thread http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... a couple of posters agreed the race thread would be better placed in here.

Really excited for this year, proper good race up front in prospect, and looks to be dry throughout mainly.

Hoping for a strakka resurgence this year but it will have to be a mighty effort from the,pm to win lmp2

Anyone know why the Nissans aren't running their hybrid systems in this session?

no.7 audi, #9 audi and #41 nissan spun at almost exactly the same time. #41 went into the barriers, but the Audis are okay.

Simply because it doesn't work, they decided a little while back it wouldn't work in time.

I've had a odd feeling about that 7 car in it's current form in both sessions, Benoît Treluyer is a very solid pair of hands and had 2 off's in the second session. Even with Lotterer in the car it did not seem to be performing as well as the sister cars. As per previous years the Audi's who have had issues in testing/qually have gone on to have issues in the race which I hope is not the case.

Porsche's lap was quite simply amazing, 3:16.887 - smashing the previous qualification lap records. 1.6 seconds faster than the fastest lap set without chicanes (Jackie Oliver - Porsche 917 1971) and 2.2 seconds quicker than the current (ish) layout with chicanes (Loic Duval - Peugeot 908 2010). Also to set that lap on the first flying lap was impressive!

I really think we are in for something special this year.

So whats happening with the Toyotas? Have the totally given up on qualy pace (As they haven't got near their pole time last year) and are fully 100% focussing on race pace? They seemed to batter around in the 3.23s for nearly all of the qualy session so at least they are consistent.

Appears to me that the only way that the stand a chance is if they have 100% reliability.

Outstanding pace up the front with the Porches though.
