Go see the historic super tourers next year - I can guarantee you will still get that tingling sensation when you see and hear them.....

I am very lucky that my friend Steve Dymoke races an Alfa in this series and get to spend time hanging around the garage with the cars that I loved and the drivers I worshipped.

Try the Silverstone Classic - pits are open to everyone including access to those superstars.
I never miss the Classic - it's usually Thursday pm to Sunday night for me as there is so much to see and people to talk to. And unlike the sainted Goodwood you don't have to dress up in bloody pantomime garb either ...

But good though the Supertourers are they don't quite get the hairs on the back of my neck twitching like the sound of a Lola T70 or a Ferrari 246 GP car .....

Silverstone classic isn't that great and assortment of touring cars with some super tourers is nothing like having 60-80k people stuffed into brands hatch and a grid full of cars.

Well...I guess it's each to their own but a grid full of BTCC doesn't really do it for all of us . What does it for me is 50 plus grids of everything from Formula Junior to 70s/80s F1 and from 50s GP cars to 60s and 70s sports prototypes . Any race meeting where I can get up close and personal to engines (most unsilenced ) of 3, 4 ,5, 6, 8 and 12 in every possible configuration is preferable to a grid full of popping and banging spec turbo 4s. Add in the bonus of seeing rare birds and exotica like Willment Cobra, Gordon Keeble, 274GTBs, early Bristols , Lotus Sixes and early 70s Skylines is an added bonus for me .

Agree about Brands though- haven't been since last GP there in 86 but it was head and shoulders above Silverstone then and I am sure it's even more superior now to watch on track action.

I was lucky enough to be taken to watch the BTCC in 1995 at Brands, I was only 7 at the time and I've forgotten most of it, but I remember it being utterly rammed and the noise was phenomenal. Probably the tipping point that made me a motorsport/car nut.

I've seen the HSCC supertourers on a few occasions and it's never really done it for me, the Lotus Cortinas are more entertaining.

I was one of those people in 1995 making all that adult noise. Brands will always be the best place to watch any motor sport.
