It's good to see a talented young upstart being given a plum seat, hopefully he will be able to take it to the big boys on occasion.
Except he's not talented, young or an upstart. He's rich, middle aged, previously failed BTCC driver. Though he might be a plumb.

It's quite amusing to see all the 'go Andy!' fan boy comments on the Team Dynamics FB page in contrast the the 'WTF!', 'what were they thinking?', 'carnage ahead' type comments everywhere else...

Because of course the art of sarcasm isn't at all in the presentation... wink

I can't believe it in a way. Steve Neal is a straight talking non mincer of words and he's taken on Neate.

Is my mind playing tricks on me that Neal has slagged him off before?

Yes, I think I needed an appropriately placed '(!)' to convey it better wink

I've got no objection to Andy Neate, the man or his dream. Hey - if I had his money/sponsorship/contacts and previous racing experience I would be doing the same. It's just I was hoping for such a decent seat in a great car & team go to an up-and-coming mega-talented young touring car driver.

I was going to compare it to Maldonado at Lotus, but it's not even a fair comparison - Maldonado was GP2 champion who had a stint at upper-midfield teams.

Neate is champion of nothing in arguably the best car/team on the grid.

Yep I'm the same. But I'd hope I'd have the attitude of Scott at BMR rather than Neate at MG/Dynamics.

"Yes I'm here, I'm doing something I always wanted to do. But those guys (points at Plato, "Flash" etc) are better than me at this. Good fun though init"

Indeed.

"I can't wait to get behind the wheel and begin to support Honda in achieving back to back manufacturers' championships, and of course be challenging for those hard fought podiums."

Fortunately, because it's not going to be liveried like the other 2 Dynamics cars the 3rd customer car is also going to be one or two steps in development behind the main 2. That reason is why the Honda dream team of Neal Sheddon and Jordan didn't happen. Honda/Yuasa don't want their car finishing behind a car with a different livery.

Not sure I agree with that.

When the third car was being punted around the other teams, they were assured that engineering and resources would be equal.

What is 100% certain is that when Cheate finishes 23rd and Neal and Flash are in the top 5 it will be because of his inferior machinery...

To be fair, I dof my hat...how the fk does he pull it off, after the trail of destruction he left last time?...

The man brings a budget. Why would anyone turn him down? Steve Neal told me Matt is running the team now, so 'blame' him, not his old man. I bet H is a bit miffed he didn't capture some budget a few months ago ;-)

Is it just Matt Neal in charge now or him and Barry Ploughman? Sure I'd heard they were split 50-50 but could be wrong.

Yes he brings a budget. But so could I if I won the lottery. Do you think I could rock up to Dynamics and say, 'here is £400,000, please may I have a drive?'

He has driven a WSR BMW, 888 MG6, and a Team AON Ford Focus - all race-winning and at the very least, podium finishing cars, yet has a best result of 6th from 99, yes 99 starts. Usually it's well into double figures...

Surely, money only talks if your results aren't terrible? Think of the crappiest, most useless pay driver you can think of, in any category of racing, that is with the best team / car and find me a worse driver than Neate?

Yes, you could, provided you had the right license and enough cash to cover testing as well as the team budget.

I'm told by people who know what they're talking about that a modern touring car is not difficult to drive within a couple of seconds a lap of a top driver, assuming the same car, tyres and setup. With the balancing of turbo boost done on a driver rather than car level, and the success ballast, anyone should be able to hang onto the midfield in a top car irrespective of how little talent they have.

Having re-read your post I think we are actually agreeing, his results are terrible and I can't think of a less deserving driver to get that seat. However the idea of the third car for Dynamics is clearly that it adds to the budget for the other two and helps ensure the lead cars can be run to the best standard possible, and by going for cash over all else they will achieve that.

p.s. the Arena Focus was not a good car, but had a MASSIVE power advantage over the rest of the field as a result of its gas powered engine wink

If I remember rightly wasn't the rear spoiler on the Arena Focus actually discovered to create lift about half way through the first season? hehe
