very sad to see Martin Prokop bow out of the championship if this sticks. While he's never going to be winning rallies against factory teams, he makes up the numbers on events that can sometimes need them!

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/124770...

silly and harsh decision by the FIA imho - for a season or two the WRC really needed to keep the privateers on board to bolster the stty entry list, to the point that WRCar privateers outnumbered manufacturer entrants on one or two rounds. He's been the consistent entrant for years now and is a shame to see him bow out. but his comment of being soured by the decision is a fair one.

Shame frown

I see Hyundai also got told off, 50,000 Euro fine for the wrong windows! I know rules is rules but come on! Especially when the championship is hardly in one of its glory eras.

Latest statement by Martin Prokop

"Hi folks, what the hell is going on? Like avery other rally, Sardinia cost us a huge amount of energy, time and money. We did the whole race with extreme self-denial and feelings of injustice, the disappointment of senseless punishment was really strong. But rally is still my whole life, and despite the fact that now we will prepare everything for Dakar, rally is for me still the number one discipline and I am a rally driver with my body and soul. Once I start into my really last WRC race, I will do it with style and „in tuxedo“ , with head up and happy, not angry and with head full of ideas on everything other than rally. Yes I will get back to WRC, this is what I can promise to myself, my team and especially fans. Maybe it will be even this year, who knows. The car and everything around is ready, prepared and rehearsed. Now we will just on principle fight with FIA for the withdrawal of the five-minute penalty, which we believe is unauthorized and injustice against us. I would like to thank all the fans who cheer our actions in the WRC and support us even now, when we are not fighting just against the clock on special stages. Cheers Martin"

It's amazing how badly this sport can be run and how random fines and time penalties are given out.

I see Hyundai have found a way of making some money back from their fine hehe

i meant to post the Hyundai debacle too. the windows haven't been right since monte. why is it only now getting noticed??
given that the windows are only circa 40g lighter than the homologation versions other teams cant cry too much about gained advantage surely? especially when you consider that they are running a heavier chassis than the VW & Ford with the i20 being 5door.

Although I wouldn't put anything past Jost Cockpito after his comments regarding Meekes win. seems strange to me that JC was saying he'd have Kris in a VW 2nd team if he could, maybe Kris turned it down to have a Citroen designed for him (a la Loeb & C4/DS3)?

I sincerely hope the FIA come to their senses with Prokop. He will be missed on events and especially in the service area. its always a party around his truck and I've never seen him turn fans away thumbup

Love the ad!

Didn't Citroen get into bother with regards windows once?

I know rules are rules – but as ever, there is no consistency. Hyundai get a 50,000 Euro fine, whereas years ago Ford got thrown out of an event.

Have to feel to for Prokop, but the best thing for him to do is stick two fingers up to them, and use the GT car he bought and go racing; there are plenty of series to choose from, and most have live streaming – and have better promotional opportunities than the WRC, which is left behind.

I’m sure I’ve said it before but the WRC/ rallying is the poor relation of motorsport.

I'm pretty sure Ford were disqualified for it with the Focus!

In better news Hyundai have finally broken cover with their 2017, 3 door, I20 Wrc.

It's almost like they thought a lighter than specified flywheel gave more of a performance advantage than mismatched paperwork for rear windows... ;-)

They are pretty inconsistent all round though, it's amazing how much variation there is in penalties for things like recce speeding etc.

Is Mick Coady and auctioneer ......
Great video, but I'd find Coady's delivery very distracting, seems to be quite common with the Irish boys though.
