That's not the message that Rally4Wales are giving out. They seem pretty confident they will be able to sort something out, but can't be sure until after a meeting scheduled for next month.

Meanwhile the FC have announced a 15% rise in charges over the next three years for England and Scotland. Which I guess could be worse.

For anyone wanting to attend Wales Rally GB this year, our Friday Service there is now live! http://www.pistonheads.com/news/general-pistonhead...

We've only got 50 pairs of tickets to give away, so you'll have to be quick to sign up if you want to join us there. Hopefully see some of you in Wales next month! We're aiming to base ourselves at the water splash/jump on the stage.

"I know it's not popular and it won't be done on a year-by-year basis "

If you know it's not popular, why try it you tard? Why is the FIA so insistent on bringing races and rallies to countries which have little or no interest in the sport compared to the current staple. I've never heard of Korea, Malaysia or China every having a huge interest in the sport. Why sacrifice the main areas of support for these? If they truly want a global audience try bringing one to the US, at least they have quite a large interest in the sport compared to the mooted countries.

Aren't Hyundai Korean and isn't China the second biggest market for Cars?.

Might have a bearing on it all.

I understand the Teams are still out of pocket from the last attempt to run a WRC event in China, so they can't be particularly happy either.

I find the idea of running shorter events as offensive as the last stage shootout!! No way I'd be spending hundreds of pounds going to placed like Sardinia or Monte for a sprint.

fk off FIA!!

Just more muddled thinking from those in charge of the WRC; who demonstrate consistently that they don't have a clue what to do with the WRC.
Instead of 12,13,14+ identikit bland events, that offer very little, the WRC needs 10 iconic well run & promoted events that capture the public & media's imagination.

But we've been saying that for 10+ years and nothing ever improves. WRC-lite is what they seem to want.

Absolutely - one of the problems is the constant flip flapping of direction - for a couple of years the buzzword has been 'endurance', which has translated into less servicing - rather than longer events. Now suddenly a U turn talking about shorter rallies!! It's madness.

Whilst I love rallying for the general public its just not a good TV sport, so why they keep chasing this as the panacea is strange. Involving spectators live on events and building the base from there is surely the way to go.

Exactly. They've convinced some people that less servicing = endurance. It's not; a sprint event is still a sprint event whether there is less servicing or not.

So how does it work then, do all day Friday and then Saturday morning in Sweden and then pop over to Finland for the afternoon and Sunday?

Surely the bulk of the cost and effort is just getting to the start line of an event, so why not make each event more worthwhile?

I can't see how making the events shorter but on the face of it more numerous and in far flung places can ever make it cheaper.
Apart from the obvious increase in logistical costs it will force the teams to make the cars faster but less durable, meaning ultimately more maintenance costs.

Not sure if I would agree that Rallying is not a good TV sport, I think it's just very expensive to do it properly on TV so it doesn't happen anymore. I don't mean to harp back to the old days, but the daily top gear rally reports made for brilliant TV. That would Never happen these days but basically the drama and spectacle does make for good TV if it's done right.

In more positive news, isn't it great to see a huge company like Microsoft sponsoring the new Toyota team?

So, Seb Loeb wins his first World RX round today......and Hollywood gets a black flag which pretty much ends his chances of making it 3 WRX titles in a row.

Gracious of Audi to let Ekstrom now concentrate on winning the WRX over his DTM commitments.

Solberg's move wasn't very sporting, if you watch the footage on YouTube he does a Plato-esque push to pass and then punts Ekstrom into the wall for good measure. The black flag was (I feel) justified but I guess with the way World RX qualifying points work then a 0 score effectively ruins your weekend.

Indeed......as other competitors said, Ekstrom and Solberg let the red mist descend, Ekstrom kicked it off with the first punt, and Petter tried to get revenge but with a bigger punt.....which the stewards got the hump about, and thus came away with nadda points as a result of, as you say the way the points system works. Should have played the percentages game.
Solberg did a Schanche laugh

Bloody brilliant to see Craig Breen confirmed at Citroen on a 2 year contract today. Back in the day of Loeb winning every event I never thought I'd become a fan of the team!

over the moon with the Breen news! been following him for a long time and always knew he'd make it one day.
to have come back from the tragedy he had and still be going for it is admirable. especially how he never forgets to mention Jaffa and the role they shared in getting it all started.

new 2017 fiesta with aero and arches has broken cover testing in spain - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngH2Ums1yKU
Looks pretty good to me, they've managed to incorporate the fat chin spoiler much better than what VW are currently running.

looks like the recent pics of the development 2017 pics are accurate too. the rear lights are moving to flat rear mounted ones as opposed to the current ones that mould into and up the body.

In other news! had a Wales Rally GB training evening this year and mixed emotions from the bods running it. if the long range forecast is right then it'll be dry, which leaves us with just another identikit gravel rally.
there's a lot of concern over the Chomondeley special. its a very sandy surface apparently that's going to get ruined very quickly, and cost the event a chunk of money, as is the time control in Chester. but someone who's in a position of power said there needs to be something happening over the border. . . regardless of the cost! They're also expect the exact same issues at the Castle as they've been experiencing at Chirk. So unless its the only option, avoid going to Cholmondeley!

Last minute phone call from a WRGB organiser this week sees me moving from my cwshty little spot in Myherin to Dyfnant, was looking forward to my spot in Myherin as I'd managed to get myself up by the windmills where its flat out and great views.
can only make the one day this year due to work so really looking forward to it now! only 2 1/2 weeks to go biggrin
