Bugger I see Loeb crashed losing an hour. Shame as its the first rally in about 10 years I actually wanted him to win!

Aye, that's a massive shame. Fingers crossed he'll be back next year and him attending is not a once off.

Al-Attiyah made serious progress today though, it'll be interesting if he can keep that up.

big fan of the 2016 Fiesta Livery, I know its pretty much identical to last seasons except for blue in place of the white. Looks the same shade of blue as the new Focus RS press car.

Loeb's damage looks like it might have been and end over end roll, given how the front and back of the jeep are missing! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CVrIdE7ViY

Methinks Loeb really doesn't like sand! He got stuck, had two punctures and rolled the car today.

In other, at-the-pointy-end news, it seems Peterhansel is going to become a 12 time winner at the Dakar unless he majorly screws up, his lead over Al-Attiyah is an hour.

Jost Capito to leave VW and take CEO at McLaren F1 - http://www.wrc.com/en/wrc/news/january-2016/capito...

perhaps he's jumped ship before things are slimmed down with the emission scandal stuff?

Will be interesting to see if he gets his mojo back with the new car, hopefully its good enough to give the VWs a challenge. It certainly looks a better platform than the 14/15 car for cog, balance etc.

If VW have have improved the 2016 Polo over the 2015 iteration as much as they improved the 2015 car over the 2014 car, the Hyundai will still be a country mile behind I'm afraid frown

From what I read on Autosport a few days ago VW have done some strengthening to the suspension/subframes and some mild engine work, so nothing too drastic. Fingers crossed that the new Hyundai is as quick as it looks and Thierry gets his form back, else it will indeed be far too easy for Ogier.

Just read that WRC highlights will be on Channel 5 this year. I hope it gets advertised properly as it was mad having it on 3 channels in the UK last year, and nobody other than the hardcore fans knowing about it!

As regards what Autosport may have been told about the 2016 Polo WRC car, three words spring to mind .... Pinch of salt biggrin

Last year (before the season started) I was fortunate enough to see some of the revised brake components for last years Polo WRC car , I'd be amazed if VW have stood still for 2016...

RE coverage, BT Sport will be covering the WRC in 2016 too. smile Live BT Sport coverage of Stage 1 begins 7.00pm on Thursday smile

Good to hear ex-BTCC driver John Thorne will be doing the MSA British Cross Country Championship as part of a factory-backed Yamaha UTV team. It should be a good battle between the Yamahas and rumoured Polaris entries.

With rallying getting more and more expensive I wonder if any rally drivers will start doing comp safari events instead?
