Well that was a superb week away at the N24 - just back today after taking a detour at Spa on the way back.
Definitely going again next year as it was so varied not only within the individual race series (especially the classics) but varied overall.
Petrolhead nirvana I reckon.
It's the best Motorsport event I have been to, so much atmosphere round the track.Definitely going again next year as it was so varied not only within the individual race series (especially the classics) but varied overall.

We made it round the circuit as well! iphone reckons we did 30 miles over the four days, not bad considering the weather and the hills.
Looking at your blog we were probably crossed paths a few times without knowing, I did hear a few English speakers around Steilstrecke but we were occupied at the time trying to lose an overly friendly very very drunk German. Not many fans ventured away from the camps did they? at times we couldn't see anyone else on the walking path/rock strewn mud trough.
The phones in our group said 33miles and over 50,000 steps over the Friday-Sat when we were walking. I could barely make it to the grandstand on Sunday to watch the finish.

Has the result of the protest by HTP been finalised?
Yes, protest thrown out, #4 wins. Some good stuff on your blog Dobbo. Looking at your video of Hocheichen, how much of the track is free of big fences ? that looks ideal for some photography - you're quite hampered at UK tracks because of fences unless you have a press pass.

Ha, good effort beating our steps count
A few of us were suffering, worth it though.
Yeah, the lack of fans on the trails is a bit surprising. Its all about the party for them I guess. Makes for very good spectating at some points.
We also got accosted by an overly friendly German at Steilstrecke. Probably not the same one, this one was only a tad drunk. He ran this website:

We got lost a fair bit, lots of extra steps! We mistakenly stayed on the inside of the track from Schwalbenschwantz to Brunnchen which meant we had a beautiful walk in a deserted forest (apart from a surprised deer) with distant techno music and not a single place to view the track. It was some consolation that we were there when the WTCC were supposed to be racing on the Friday which only seemed to go for one lap then nothing.A few of us were suffering, worth it though.

We watched some of the Classic at Kesselchen where you're high over the track and it was surreal having it all to ourselves and hearing nothing but birdsong between the passing cars. I think we found the same hide tower from your blog too.
I recon it was the same bloke, he was very keen for us to come and watch videos of Steilstrecke which he seemed adamant was the ultimate corner in all of racing history.

That video was actually taken by poking the iPhone through the fence. It's a perfect size. For photos with a bigger camera there are loads of spots to get above the catch fencing and in the main viewing areas there are purpose built slots in the fence to shoot photos through. In some areas the fence is only waist high because you are way up above the track. In other areas there is no fence at all because I guess it's supposed to be off limits. Some good stuff on your blog Dobbo. We were wandering around in the forest for ages on Sat when the race got stopped and every so often we would scramble up the armco to get a view of the track. Even though there were no cars running it was still pretty atmospheric.

I was watching and thinking it wasnt that bad, then just before 5 minutes all hell broke loose! The trees were taking a battering too by the looks!
Staggering how quickly conditions change from perfectly fine to undriveable at any speed - just 8 minutes. Superb video, thanks to the poster for sharing.Allyc85 said:
Far from an expert that that looks pretty impressive driving. That yellow BMW got squirrely a few times didn't it, seemed like the Porsches had better traction.
