I'm going this year for the first time, looking forward to it. Hopefully going to take my 18 month old son on Saturday too, wife isn't interested so gives her a day off. Hope I can keep him entertained. He quite liked watched some racing before so hoping for the best. Will take extra warm clothes for him though.
From painful motorsport experiences, an 18 month old at a cold April Silverstone could be extremely hard work.. For this type of unsilenced event, if you don't have them already, I recommend some Peltor kids ear defenders.df76 said:

Those cars hurt my ears, so there's no way I'd take a young kid without defenders.I've been the last few years (luckily guest of Michelin) and it's been a great race to watch.
Usual note on Silverstone. Whatever the weather, expect the worst, it's bloody windy even sitting in the stands, so wear plenty of layers and take ear plugs.
If it rains, i'd head down towards the end of the wellington straight/Luffield complex as there is always some sideways action to be seen there.
