Whincup bumping people off the track, what a surprise.
Should've got a drive through and they gave him a 15 second penalty! Fabian so near...needed to pit on lap 155 for fuel anyway, so was trying to stretch out a lead and see what happened. The last couple of yellow flags did for him. The others just had enough fuel...Percat and Davison were dry at the last corner! Mentally exhausted after the best part of 6 hours in the back of the Penske pit, but The Captain was very pleased with the potential the team showed. McLaughlin/Coulthard next year is a potent force.

There's a reason it's called the great race never a year without a talking point. Great racing again really enjoyed that the rest of the season will very interesting the time penalty should have been longer as it takes more than 15 seconds for a drive through.

Whincup does seem to lose his st when he comes here, the Liqui Molly 12hr is looking like it'll be another cracking race at Bathurst too.

No surprise there. And McLaughlin given points for joining circuit dangerously! Not his fault he was put in that position!

Granted he was nudged but he did also just pin it across the grass. No way cod he not see where he was headed and where Tander and Whincup were also heading.... bit of a lift and he'd have just joined behind them.

Before that last safety car I still expected Whincup to just grab it, he was certainly gapping the field at a fair rate.

From what I saw Jamie hits Scotty who then tries to minimise the pain, Jamie trying not to lose a place to Garth tries to redress by leaving Scotty enough room to slot in front/beside him which would stop Garth, unfortunately Garth sees his opportunity & goes for the overtake (which he's entitled to do) Scotty tries to come on track & take the redress which is the perfect storm for the crash.

For me the whole thing starts & ends with Jamie's actions therefore he should have got a proper drive through or at least a time penalty that reflects a drive through.

That how I see it too.

If Whincup had done the sensible thing and waited until the straight to redress safely instead of slowing on the racing line to baulk Tander's corner exit, then Scotty would have rejoined safely behind them.

Yes Tander probably would have got past him too when he redressed, but when you've just punted someone off the track you lose your right to complain about that.

While Scotty could have rejoined more carefully and Tander could have backed out of it instead of pulling out to pass a car suddenly slowing in front of him (for all he knew Whincup could have been slowing because of damage from the first contact or running out of fuel again), the whole incident wouldn't have happened if Whincup hadn't (a)punted Scotty off and (b)slowed down in a stupid place to try and protect himself from the consequences of his first mistake.

He'd tried his normal bump-pass on Tander a few times over the preceding laps too, contrast that with how clean and close the scrap between Davison and Gis was over the last few laps.

Also Jamie has tried to say he was racing fair & he didn't realise Garth was behind him when he went to redress, as Garth said if he wanted to redress why didn't he come off the racing line & redress that way the replays also show he actually tried to block Garth when he went for the pass.

Also if JC got a drive through for slow entry to the pit lane then Jamie should have definitely had a drive through glad to see the Stewards are consistent in all forms of motorsport biggrin

I was more surprised by how calm RD was about it actually, you'd think he would be pretty pissed about his drivers taking each other out but he just shrugged and said these things happen when drivers are pushing hard. I guess they both have enough championship lead over 3rd place that its going to be an 888 car either way though.

Exactly this if there was another team close then he'd have been losing his st.

This appeared at work today:

Both driver's side door handles have rub marks on them where he presumably dragged them down the wall at some point yikes
