Ah missed that!

I can't think of any bad place to watch, you are either really close to the action in the mountain/woodland section of the circuit or you can see the other 50% of the track and the vast sweeping bends on the top part.

Seriously though, hall bends is very close to the action. wink
The OP is in Reading so I can see why Silverstone would be the obvious choice, Cadwell is a bit of a trek! Combe and Thruxton are easily do-able though.

Indeed, fair point! Was more referring to close-ness of action rather than a suggestion for the OP. I know how far away it is from any other civilisation with it being my local! smile

Silverstone is also the dullest circuit to drive. The straights are too long, and the hairpins too slow which means it's hard to get into a tempo.

Castle Combe flows, as does Donington, Thruxton, Cadwell and Brands. Whether it's coincidence or not, they'd be my choices as the best viewing circuits as well.

Here are my tips:

Castle Combe - Just about everywhere. Pity about the solar farm.

Donington - on the grass opposite Hollywood, so you can see from Redgate all the way to McCleans.

Thruxton - the grandstand is pretty good, and from there you can even see the other side of the circuit if you bring your binocs.

Cadwell - Stand at the top of the gooseneck and you get a panorama of half the circuit, plus the cars going past at close quarters.

Brands - Not sure where the best viewing is, on the grass bank on the other side of Druids probably.

Coppice is the place - if you position yourself just right you can see 5 different overtaking points- 4 conventional , one if somebody screws up the Mountain. But all of Cadwell is lovely - hang the distance, it's 2 1/2 hours for me but HSCC and VSCC meetings are essential viewing. And as a very early riser a 6 am start is just fine -what's nicer than 140 miles on empty roads in a noisy sports car to kick start the day? Bacon sandwich , walk round the paddock and the best of days begins ...

Silverstone has only its convenient location (for me) in its favour. As a spectator's circuit you'd see as much at home on the television and you would be a lot warmer! I agree about Brands being a great spectator circuit - especially the club circuit and viewed from the Paddock grandstand of from your car parked on South Bank (used to be South Bank Curve but no idea what it's called now). Donington's similar - the best place I found before the revamp was under the advertising hoardings on the banking just before Craner curves, down from Redgate.

I was at Silverstone last month for the WEC, and have been several times before. I always try to watch at Copse, for the speed the P1 cars turn in, and the Maggots / Becketts complex is always good for viewing as well.

I liked Castle Combe better before the "not chicanes", Old paddock was proper white knuckle stuff to drive. Must fix my car and enter one of our events there next year (though new helmet, FHR, overalls, gloves and slicks will make it an expensive proposition).
