Daniel Lloyd leaves Eurotech & Chris Smiley exits Team Hard. Michael Caine replaces Smiley.

Seems like it's been a helluva long break this year!

Was just about to start a thread dam you beat me. Not surprised with the revolving door at team hard but Michael caine is a surprise. Though Daniel Lloyd at eurotech is a surprise what a shame to a very quick driver who has the talent to be a race winner.

As the 3rd eurotech license is loaned that goes back to toca which im guessing will be kept for next year.

Caine's had a few part seasons in BTCC already hasn't he Chris?

& yes, shame about Dan Lloyd, he's had some very decent races.

Here's hoping Rob can top ten the Avensis this weekend biggrin

Smiley showed promise so it's a shame to see him run into trouble financing the drive - when you have the likes of Howard and Lines out there.

I really hope Lloyd can get the budget together to come back next year - looks like a man with a lot of promise, and with a bit more BTCC experience under his belt he could really be a contender.

This is bad for the sport.

Not saying this is what happened with the above quoted, but the BTCC is very expensive, even though NGTC was hailed as 'keeping costs realistic and under control'.

A driver approaches 'Team A': 'How much for a full season seat this year?'

'£xxxxxx,' is the reply.

Finding that a bit steep (although Team A's costings are very realistic), the driver approaches 'Team B':

'How much for a full season seat this year? I've got £xxx.'

The Team B 'Team Principal' fully realises that £xxx is not enough for a full season but he needs the £xxx. Thus the driver joins Team B.

Half way through the season the driver is told: 'Sorry, £xxx wasn't enough. We now need more £xxx. If you can't raise it, we'll have to find someone else.'

So the driver is out on his arse. And his loyal sponsors who have supported him over the years of building up to the BTCC? And who have paid him a full season of sponsorship based on him being on ITV, being mentioned constantly in all the BTCC hype, and fully expected him to complete a full season?

They will be very disgruntled, with the driver, with the team, but more importantly, with the BTCC. Having had their fingers burned, they'll certainly think again about BTCC sponsorship.

And it's not the driver's fault.

The BTCC really have to address this, it happening every season now.

Same here - pretty surprised at that one tbh. In the races he'd been in he showed promise (apart from possibly being a bit naïve with the start at Croft) and, as you say, put Eurotech further up the grid than they normally were.

Reports are that a major sponsor of his failed to deliver the promised funding & Eurotech couldn't afford to run him without it.

In that case I guess it's understandable tbh. Shame none the less as he's a young driver with talent unlike a few of the back markers making up the numbers.

Surely there is some kind of contract breach in there?

Anyway, I've been looking forward to BTCC's return far more than whatever F1 race is happening this weekend.

I'm surprised Jeff Smith hasn't at least loaned him the money to carry on as he's been dragging that car up the grid at every race, it's good for him and good for Eurotech, plus Smith isn't short of the cash to help a young driver out and give him that change even if it's costs just to cover an extra round.

Smith has been paying for some/most of the drive already - think it isn't sustainable in the long run with the funds a no show.

So, who's to blame for the Porsche shunt ?

Jelley moved too many times and Zamparelli couldn't avoid contact IMO.

looked like a marshal was lucky ,possibly looking away from the oncoming traffic as a 911 piled into the tyres.
