Some are getting confused here: Marshals that attend MSA events are not paid. Marshals that work at track days are paid. So when circuits have "test" days before the actual event then those marshals will be paid, but when it is the actual event they won't. For several circuits it may be the same people but for-filling different roles.
No MSA event would run if we had the same level of marshals as they use for track days. (Not all posts are manned and those that are are generally single manned)

Having been "at it" for over 40 years now it still surprises me the number of competitors who don't realise on Race days most of the Officials/Marshals are unpaid volunteers. Could you imagine the problems trying to pay 100+ people a fair days wage (including overtime) for a typical Club racing event. That's why Clubs/Organisations are more than grateful when Drivers/Teams/Sponsors come along and cough up something a little extra for Marshals.
My MSA licence finally turned up yesterday. Very pleased.
Have now signed up for an event at Donington through the BMMC website.
Not sure if that is the right thing to do or right way to do it.
Do feel somewhat lost with it but hopefully once I've done a few events I'll have more of an understanding.

The following forum can be pretty good when it comes to various marshalling questions:Have now signed up for an event at Donington through the BMMC website.

I found there was quite a lot to take in initially but it gets much easier, 9 years and counting
Will have a read through, thanks.
Have signed into the BMMC site and clicked to volunteer at an event at Donington.
As it would be my first event proper event do I need to do anything different?
Should I get a response back or do I just assume acceptance and rock up on the day?
The taster days I've done elsewhere I haven't received my marshals ticket until a couple of days before the event. I'm reluctant to book a valuable weekend to marshaling then to find out at the last min I'm not required/accepted.

I haven't had any dealings with the BMMC but I imagine they'll have a contact email on their site. Trainees are always welcome, the only exceptions I've seen are the BTCC and F1 where they want more experience.Have signed into the BMMC site and clicked to volunteer at an event at Donington.

Your tickets and pass should arrive about a week before the event. Other t than that no, the guys doing sign on might ask how many events you've done and that's all there is to it! Have signed into the BMMC site and clicked to volunteer at an event at Donington.
