"A one-off race where everything is on the line. Not long game, no world title, no points - just pure racing.

In keeping with the Olympic spirit, all the cars would be identical. Whether that's a grid full of Ferraris, Mercedes or another team entirely doesn't really matter.

Drivers would compete for their country in their national colours. Imagine Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button representing Great Britain, Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg in the black, red and yellow of Germany and Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz proudly racing under the Spanish flag.

And, in common with each individual event in athletics, a country could enter a maximum of three drivers."

I'd enjoy. Who else?

of course it matters whose car they use. You simply would not get another driver driving for another team. Why? They could learn too much about the car and its characheristics which would be used in the F1 WDC race.

It could be done with Karts of FFord perhaps. But would they be allowed to set the car up? Could they bring their own sponsor based equipment?

Did the A1GP cars ever get to South Africa ? they could be used.

Last I heard they were sat in a warehouse somewhere, but a deal had been done to take them to South Africa for a domestic series.

This was kind of the idea behind A1GP wasn't it?

I think it would have to be a ROC-style knockout competition open to all drivers of all nations rather than purely an F1 competition. There aren't enough identical F1 cars around to make it a fair race, and probably not enough nations represented by F1 alone.

Anyway, as much as I'd like to see all drivers compete in identical machinery, I don't think it has any place in the Olympics.

About as much chance as a GP being held on the streets of London.

That was what I though. A formula racing nations cup.

No, I don't think F1 belongs in the Olympics. I'd like to Super karts, Formula Ford & Rally cross, but it will never happen.

Last time i spoke to someone who had seen those they were in a very sorry state. As in chucked into a warehouse after the last race and left there. No cleaning, no draining of fluids, just rotting away.

I suspect it was almost be cheaper to start again.

As for the subject - will never happen, not because of lack of money, but because of the 1001 little things from sponsor/manufacturer affiliations to good old fashioned politics about cars. That's before we start to deal with if it should be oval, roval or a proper race track.

IMO neither needs the other and it is best off that way.

I'd go for that as a Silverstone attending big grand Prix fan, I see it as the only way Lewis Hamilton will ever be Sir Lewis Hamilton. You can win three probably four world championships and not get a gong but if you win one Olympic medal for say jumping in a sandpit or spear throwing you become a sir: furious:

Tbh people shouldn't get gongs for doing their job. The medal or title alone is reward enough imgo

Use GP2 cars with the previous generation 2.4l V8 F1 engines fitted. That way chassis and aero is identical and the engines were pretty much equal on power across all 3 suppliers.

Or, Use the DW12 Indycars, have oval and road events.

Finally, an Endurance race. 12 Hours using LMP2 cars and GTE which have been BoP'd to perfection.

Or just have motorbikes as that would probably be perceived as a more physical motorsport and one where the rider can visibly make the difference. Moto 2 or WSBK spec,

Japan 2020 would be a great one to start this. Suzuka, Fuji and Motegi would give the variety needed to cover all disciplines.
Add drifting too, afterall we have gymnastics, dancing with horsed and fancy jumping into water already.
