Speaking of marshals it was fortunate the 0 car stopped and got some marshals to move, Suninen would have wiped them out!
What year was it that Carlos Sainz did the exact same thing ?....and Ford pulled all their works cars out.

That was Myherin wasn't it ?

I was on that stage but not at that corner.
That was 2001 in Brechfa. I was in the following Trawscoed stage; and knew before the marshals the stage was cancelled - Rally radio reported it before they'd been told.

Why is Latvala in 8th....? shouldn't be behind Ostberg or Sordo.

Most enjoyable day taking it easy in the spectator areas on Gartheniog. Nice slides on viewing point 2 before watching the 2nd run from the start line. Nice to see Ogier mess up a bit!

https://twitter.com/AlastairCummins/status/7924093...

The car park was rammed from where they scan the tickets right up to the stage. We turned up 2 hours before the start and ended right by the path to the stage, unlike 2 chaps in our hotel who were right at the bottom!

Alwen tomorrow!

What other international sporting event opens the spectator facilities after all of the competitors have left?

Turned up at Deeside at 05:30 ready for first car at 06:00. Couldn't find the car park, then the security man told us that the gates don't open until 09:00!

Yes, I could have read the timings properly, but thought public access at service was a minimum requirement. Saw the National Rally cars later so all was not lost.

And got a photo of Amy Williams as compensation.

Isn't all WRC in the UK just a 1 hour (45 minutes once you account for the advert breaks) highlights package on C5 (previously ITV4) nowadays at some point the week after the event? I think BT Sport run a package of some form too although from memory it's mainly an extended highlights package showing action during the weekend with the occasional live stage thrown in.

Edit - just did a search online and surprisingly found this listed on C5 for Sunday lunchtime:

http://www.channel5.com/show/world-rally-champions...

Live coverage of the final stage of Rally GB - Just like Formula E on ITV4 last year, and so far C5 this year, I didn't even realise they were showing anything live as I haven't seen an advert on C5 promoting it. Although that's not that surprising as they tend to mainly just advertise their awful benefits shows continuously instead.

BT Sport also appear to be showing a couple of live stages on Sunday morning too, but the rest of the weekend is 30 - 45 minutes highlights / update packages spread throughout the weekend.
Spike tv are showing a hr every night

So basically, we have 3 channels showing highlights each day and 2 showing live stages.

Sounds like the best coverage we have ever had?

The best coverage we've had? Pretty debatable. 3 stations showing the same generic highlights.

Where has the live coverage been? Why wasn't there any on Friday or Saturday? Why wait until the final day, when the event is virtually decided? Not good enough from RedBull......they're doing the bare minimum.

After last year where they had a number of the Friday and Saturday stages live on BT Sport you would have thought that they would have done similar this year.

Just watched the live coverage on C5.

Not brilliant but better than nothing, spoilt by Desborough mumbling ste.

They just took the 'world feed' as BT Sport does. Desborough is Not a commentator; he's fine as an 'intro man' but not doing the live stuff.

I felt it was all a bit 'low key' for what is our supposed flagship rallying event. The lack of comments on this thread is confirmation about the sport/ event. I imagine 15-20 years ago it would have been somewhat different.

I cant stand watching the coverage with Desborough doing the coverage! I watch it on mute with WRC Live playing in getting all the stage end stuff from Colin Clark and Becs Williams and the gang. I got really mad watching with the sound on one time as he was just rambling about irrelevant stuff and trying to make a sensation out of nothing, I cant remember exactly what it was but I can remember sitting there getting more worked up listening to the bks coming out of his mouth!

The TV coverage continues to be poor on all rounds. the highlights show are pretty much 90% the same footage. they harp on about it being difficult to shoot the rally live, but pass up on easy stages like Cholmondeley (yes a Mickey mouse stage, but throw in some group b cars and you'd have an ok bit of coverage).

Here's how my WRGB 2016 went -

I only managed to get out on Friday this year due to work and staff off sick meant I couldn't have the leave for the full weekend rolleyes

I was drafted in to man the Flying Finish of SS4/8 Dyfnant from my original location in Myherin. I said after last years farce that was access and exit of Dyfnant that I'd not do it again, but a personal call from the stage commander asking to do it as they didn't trust the ones originally marked down I agreed. Wont be doing that again!!!
Got to sign on early and they let us in, given we had to drive the whole stage that was a relief before the other cars went through, whatever NRW have been charging for "regrading the roads" is total bks! they've basically dumped fist sized rocks into the bad areas and left it! yikes
Got to location and unpacked all the paperwork, found no start list or entry list. went through the goody bag to find not a single programme between the 3 of us to use for idea of entrants mad when doing timing its really good to have a list of cars so you know who's who and how many you should be expecting!
got comms set up with the stop line, but weren't great.

Settled in for the day in the timing van doing the best the 3 of us could, location really needs 5 minimum to enable a smooth run (its even stated in the FIA manual we were issued!)

Cars got going and before we knew it they were finished. short wait for the nationals gave enough time for a comfort break and a snack.

Nationals went through in dribs and drabs, gutted the 6r4 went out before SS4 as aside from the escorts there isn't much else to see in the national fields.

Got ourselves set up with the cooker and bacon butties on the go while waiting for SS8 to open. then we had the near 2 hr delay. Stop line didn't relay anything to us about what was happening in stage. so took a wander up, got there to find out one of my club mates had been taken ill and required an evac from stage to the local hospital with a suspected cardiac arrest. He's ok, home and resting. (I've even joked with him of all the times to fall ill like he did it was when me and my brother weren't there as were both first responder trained!).

SS8 got underway eventually and ran quite quickly, but we ended up leaving stage in darkness once again. it was a long ass day as we got up at 2.30am to travel up, got home at 11pm.

I might have preferred the stage been scrubbed as one of the FIA cars said was very close to happening, they'd have rathered scrap SS8 in favour of getting the cars to the Chester time control on time as I'm guessing Chester council coughed up a pretty penny to have the rally visit the arch as it did in old RAC days.

I was really looking forward to the event this year, especially as I could only make the one day so wanted to make the most of it, but I don't know if its an organisers thing or just the stage mishaps that has got me here thinking the 3 of us made all this effort to go up and marshal and have come away dejected, there's so much involved in this year that's taking it away from core rallying for me - like the Cholmondeley and Chester visits, one time their complaining about road section mileage, so what do they then do? they chuck further away sections in rolleyes

I'm even considering just spectating next year!

Slightly annoyed that M Sport couldn't find a car for Elfyn Evans on homeground.
The commentators clarified why this occurred.

In WRC2, they nominate 6 rounds to compete on and Evans has done his 6, so no point in doing any more as he can't score more points.

He led the points before Wales but could now lose title to a Skoda driver.

I think he was hoping for a WRCar for RallyofGB....and from what I've heard/read he was a little disappointed.

I thought the C5 coverage was very very poor. Desborough knows as much about rallying as I do about chinese democracy....

I'm sure some of the independant commentators who do the irish road rallying stuff and the young chap on motors would be far better.

They were also doing commentary in Brenig on Sunday, I thought they were good. They made an interesting and relevant comment on every single car, right down to the last car in the Nationals. And offered some good opinion on certain issues (e.g. which of the WRC2 drivers was most likely to get a WRC drive etc.) and explained why there were delays and what had happened to various missing cars.

Hi, so my first GB in 8 years, came down for the 3 days. Got to Myheren 1, Sweet Lamb 2, Dyfi 1, Aberherent, Alwen 1. Was going to head to Brenig 2 but reckoned it would be rammed, so headed to Llandudno for the finish. I was in car park P, i think you could walk to Brenig finish (if so how far) Marshalls on Alwen had no idea though. What would be great to know is stage positions people found that were good, i didnt have time to explore fully. Walked up from the spectator are on Alwen, apart from that tended to stick to the SA being unfamiliar with the stages. I agree that the BT Sport coverage isn't up to much. It's more of highlights than review. Not caught the C5 coverage, I understand Nicky Grist was used? If so a better choice than Jon D IMO. Overall I was quite pleased with my experience, it definitely paid to get to the parking 2 hours before start (at least), it was only for Dyfi, where obviously a lot of people park overnight where I had a longer (uphill) walk, but access was mostly good. Lack of supervisors on some of the parking, kinda left to guess where to go/ turn round etc, but i had pretty decent views on each of the 5 stages. Just a shame on the lack of comms, with no phone reception I do find you are out of the loop results-wise. Wish some of the safety cars relayed some results, keep the fans uptodate. How do others manage on this front?
