Here's a genuine question - how many people went out and bought a VW Polo because of its success in WRC?

Put it another way, if you asked 100% of the people who bought a Polo in the past 3 years "did you know your car is a world rally winner" how many would even say yes? Probably less than 1%.

Probably less than 0.1%. But it's about the brand image rather than a particular model, and the idea of VW and Audi spanking more cash on combustion sport projects doesn't fit very well with that at the moment (and the fines of course).. real shame.

Like the video from the previous post, thanks for sharing. Really enjoyed following the WRC this year, and 2017 should be excellent even without VW.

VW, like Citroen and Peugeot before then never exploited their WRC dominance with showroom product. I've never understood going to all that trouble, investing the funds and a top line rally team, winning everything in site and yet the marketing depts. seem happy enough to promote the bland stuff/looking the other way.

Maybe things were about to change for the '17 WRC season, VW were going to call their car the Polo GTI. Maybe there would've been a big marketing push linking the WRC car with a road car of some description. We'll never know.

Might yet see a Volkswagen in the WRC next season.

Would be a sensible financial decision for VW.. and good for the sport.
