Interesting read that, worrying but interesting. We'll have to see how the dust settles after Mexico...

What we have to remember is both the Monte and Sweden were basically winter rallies which are basically past now unless Rally GB has some snow.

The Citroen with the longer wheel base "I presume this is the case" could and should be a lot better on tarmac and gravel.

Obviously this is not the start Citroen and the drivers wanted but I am sure we will see a different car in Mexico.

Famous last words biggrin

Only the FIA could decide to destroy anything good with the WRC.

What was the point of deciding to make the cars faster then?? The FIA really are a fked organisation, or maybe they don't like the fact WRC is getting so much attention again and is yet another Motorsport to take attention from the dullness of F1?

I was going to say “you couldn’t make it up..” but as it’s the FiA, we know what they’re like.
This goes back to when the regs were first discussed; the cars at the time were more than fast enough. The cars weren’t really the issue. It was other issues; woeful promotion, lazy TV, identikit events, etc

Many people on here and various rally forums have said during the run up to 2017 that there are concerns about these new ‘rockets’.

Personally, the FiA/ Teams/ RedBull were alarmed by the success of World RX and 400BHP+ cars – and felt they had to act.

Listen to any of the drivers and they are delighted driving cars which have more power.

Yes the faster you go the higher the risk but what is the point of even competing if you can't drive these cars at the limit.

Whether the death of the spectator at the Monte has made the FIA go all extreme we will never know.

The FIA also had a go at Sweden regarding the lack of snow especially the need for more snow banks. Pressure has been put on the organiser to move more into Norway to find better stages.

Then on the other hand the FIA cancel a stage due to the cars going too fast. If the cars were able to lean on snow banks they would go even faster. biggrin

The FIA really are a total joke.

Nice little video from Red Bull detailing Louise Cook's adventures in Sweden. The snow, ice and lack of money couldn't stop her, but a missing piece of paper about seat brackets did.

Paddon on FIA: ''Speed is not a measure of how 'safe' a stage is - and SS12 in Sweden would have almost been same in '16. From a drivers perspective best is a mix of fast and slow stages - I wouldn't want to see iconic events slowed down. We want to go fast''

Just a point regarding the Stage speeds, it appears the 2016 Cars were also averaging over 80mph this time, so it kinda points the finger at the stage layout not the cars. They simply cannot use roads that are too quick for the stage maximum average.
Same concept applies to all Rallies from a Club Road Rally to WRC, the organisers need to work harder. Mind you I suppose they could always knock the start clock back a few minutes and leave the finish clock at rally time that would bring the average down.... wonder if they thought of that? wink

Been off grid again so catching up. Toyota need to bake some humble pie for the naysayers like myself.

Citroen have somehow ballsed up the positive looking testing vids and produced a car that at least 2 of their 4 driver line up are pretty much calling a bucket of ste.

Ogier appears to be struggling, but hes got the least amount of seat time in his 2017 car than any of the other drivers have. hes gone from teams with whole armies of support staff to what is essentially still a small private team. He's learning new lingo with them and re starting everything he knows in terms of set ups and tweeks to the car. I don't know if his VW chief engineer went with him to M-Sport. I suspect if he had they'd get the car locked in to how he likes it much quicker than currently is.

Loving the RedBull TV stuff. way better imho than what BTSport are putting out. its just a shame the WRC took so long to adopt the online broadcasting route and not made better use of it when it was the in thing. its what helped catapult RallyCross to the spectacle it currently is.

Looking forward to the first gravel event in Mexico now.

fk right off on that one!! the clocks are a bh to use as they are, having to deal with fiddled times on top of the transponders not picking up car numbers because the system is set up for mainland euro events, not being able to see the missing car number because its covered in 30km worth of sticky mud, the stty satellite signal in the dense no mans land forests of mid/north wales, and then having to manually relay the times from flying finish over a stty little walky talky so stop line can fill out the drivers cards. except you have to repeat the time at least 3 times as the moron filling the card out is doing it on the bonnet of the loud as st WRC car rolleyes
(not sure if you can guess, but I'll not be volunteering for timing duties on this years WRGB!)

The top WRC guys were retained by VW and have been seconded to the WRX team apparently.

Thought you guys might enjoy a few clips from Race Retro. Plenty of action, group B stuff etc. Not up to my usual standards but I was using my phone/no tripod/only one angle etc.

If anyone is wondering what the car at 0:50 is, it's a Milner LRM-1. The body is a 4/5ths scale Evoque, it's powered by a 5.0 V8 and it's raced in the MSA British Cross Country Championship (a bit like the BRC for offroaders) by Ryan Cooke.
