I certainly wouldn't sign up to pay for WRC+; it's a far way from what it needs to be. The Live stages are no different to what BT Sport cover. You'd think there would be extra live stages.

Let's hope for a old style Monte - with an unpredictable outcome; something we haven't had since 2011. 3 former winners take the start tonight; Delecour (1994), Ogier (2009, 2014, 2015, 2016) & Bouffier (2011).

Ford hits trouble, I don't rate the Hyundais and I think Paddon will finish but a long way off the pace. I think JML will get what he needs to shake off his foibles and deliver thsi year - I.e. lots of seat time. 12 days already since he signed.

Busting for this season to kick off!! looking at the vids of shakedown, there isn't much difference over the cars of last season tbh. but full attack will certainly tell and not much can be taken from shakedown.

Meeke apparently was running soft/slick compounds during his runs so as not to use up all his snow allocation.

The cars seem to move about more than testing vids, probably down to the snowy conditions, again time will tell.

and I also wonder how long before the front lip gets some sort of revision, one theme i noticed with all the cars going through one corner was the icy slush being kicked up by the lip straight onto the windscreen. that'll be a nightmare in Sweden and on really dusty events! May not be such a problem if as we all suspect it isn't going to stay attached to the car for longer than one flat out competitive stage!

Looking forward to as much live stuff as I can fit in, I've got a free month on WRC+ until the end of the month, and only recently realised I had free 6months BTsport app subscription with my new mobile contract. should cover me for Monte and Sweden.
I wonder also how the free red bull stuff is going to hit WRC+, as i still have no desire to pay for a full year as the free subscriptions I used last year showed me it still wasn't worth full price as still not enough live content.
I think they run taller ride heights in Sweden ; Higher profile tyres, some big jumps, the passage of all the cars through the stage leaves deep ruts (especially if the temperatures aren't below freezing) which means the car's would end up running on the sump/diff guards, and I suspect they leave some room in the arches to ensure that if snow/ice does build up within the arches, it won't prevent the wheels steering or the suspension from being able to move.

Shunt for Paddon. Crew looks to be ok fortunately.
Neuville looked massively fast out of the blocks !

If you look closely the car didn't hit him but he did take a tumble down the hill when the car slid.

Explains why they stopped filming the car/aftermath. Hope the individual is ok.
I'm amazed the spectators get in to positions that leave them open to being hit. Every European round of the WRC I've been to over the past 10 years has been so tightly policed, I've not been ABLE to stand in a position the organisers/marshalls considered risky.

The car did hit the spectator you can see the car hit him and fire him up the bank before he then rolls back down on to the road, it's not looking good, let's hope he's ok

I didn't see guy close to the car, all i saw to start was a heavy impact on the co-drivers side and then people attending to someone on the floor. my immediate thoughts went to Kennard being ill until i saw how calm Paddon was.
How the buffoon presenting the live stuff didnt get the message that crew was ok is baffling. unless I missed them saying it when i nipped away from the laptop for 2 mins. a tweet from Hyundai was the first I heard.

My top 3 before stage 1 was Ogier, Meeke, Neuville. I'm sticking with that too.

How/why some spectators think being halfway up a bank is the smart place to be baffles me! seeing it as a media point I'd have imagined there being marshals at the location, so maybe just lucky in that he slipped through. but unlucky that he chose to and has potentially been injured.

Slippy - RE the splitter - I'd noticed the splitter kicking up the stuff as cars were cutting, so more like the ruts we see on 2nd running of stages. We'll see how it all goes, I'm still under the impression that its a part they expect to lose often.

Media said nothing about a Spector being hit, either they didn't know or just decided to keep quiet about it.

The person hit was at road level looking at the in-car. The speed with which the stage was cancelled is worrying.

Knowing the Monte stages, the only access will be along the stage (and even airlifting is difficult/impossible) I assume the moment there's an accident with ANY injury, the stage gets cancelled these days.

i've watched it about 10 times. The car did not fire the speccy up the bank, but the two entities might have touched once they stopped rolling around. Bit difficult to tell.

By the time I'd heard a speccy may have been hit the footage wasn't available. And not really keen to scour YouTube for some right now.
I'd assume as soon as confirmation of an injured spectator fed back cancelling the stage was the only option.
Given the hype this season has garnered in the media I feared something like this happening. But no way expected it so soon! I hope it's nothing serious. Hopefully it's not a "new" spectator involved as that will put a lockdown on events to come!
