Extreme-e electric off road championship
Discussion
Was a bit sceptical when i saw the first onboard footage as was a bit dull.
But actually watching the qualifying looked like this could be worth following. The 45* downward slope is pretty spectacular and when you see the wider shots its pretty unique in its setting. 2 big accidents in qualifying with the cars digging in when out of shape so certainly not easy to drive and pretty uncompromising.
If the top 3 cars are as close in the race as they are in quail going to be interesting as will probably be a battle of the bravest (1x WRX Champion, 2x WRC champions means bravery isn't going to be lacking amongst them!)

I thought that was great fun
I think the commentary was really strong, the graphics generally worked well, the cars looked great.
I've bought into Team Rosberg beating Hamilton/Loeb, JB doing his thing (generally failing but doing so nicely), remembering just how exciting Carlos Sainz snr is to watch driving and CGZ's commitment, exuberance and energy.
As above, the 75 second penalty was nonsense, it's the first ever event so driver changes need sorting out. We need splits on the driver 1/change/driver 2 but I think that isn't shown to hide certain performance gaps.
The only negative is that I have absolutely no idea what they were qualifying for. Do only the top three teams get to race tomorrow, or do all of them just in different groups of three? What benefit (other than championship points) does qualifying in pole add?
It also showed up everything that is wrong with the WRC coverage today; decent graphics/knowing where the car is on the track/stage, identical cars all looking different as opposed to different cars all looking identical, I know the drivers and which teams they race for and no commentary spoiling what is about to happen before it actually does.

I believe first 3 go thru to final race, next 3 race off and winner also goes I to final, last 3 have a race between themselves.I think the commentary was really strong, the graphics generally worked well, the cars looked great.

In needing two cars for the race, i thought Formula E really showed up the generic weakness of EVs, whereas this series showcases the benefits of huge torque for a short format race.
I agree that there is a lot to be learned and it may take a couple of years, but the format - SS of a Dakar RAID, is impressive. Putting talented women alongside talented men is a clever way to promote more women taking part in motorsport. Sainz and Sanz look like an inspired choice.
The 3-abreast stuff tomorrow could be Xtremely entertaining.

I quite enjoyed the Quali rounds today, yes, a few things need sorting like the penalties but that was mainly due to the pit limiters which they will no doubt get sorted at future events...
... what I thought they could do is have the other driver instead of sitting out be the co driver with the pace notes then they could switch at the pit stops...

Enjoyed the coverage I've seen, graphics and commentary excellent. In one quali session they've already shown (across social media + the TV stuff) WRC how it's done, impressive set up.
Read through the format twice and still not sure what the hell is going on though, is there any need to make it that complicated?!
As the parent of a 6 year old and therefore well aware of Catie Munnings on CBeebies, it was damn exciting seeing her manage the puncture / loss of an entire wheel and bring it home in a good time.

At least he has the balls to do it rather than just putting his name to it. At the end of the day he's made no bones about the fact that he is not very good at off road racing currently and he wants to learn and improve as pushing the boundaries of what he is capable of is what gets him out of bed in the morning. Can't say I would say anything else he has done in life (karting, formula racing, triathlons, business, media etc etc) could be classed as generally failing though. Generally extremely successful I would say.

Just woke up again after falling asleep during the races this morning. It’s a drag race to T1 and that’s it.
I really enjoyed the qualifications but it is true that the race is just a drag race to turn 1 then the 2 cars behind have to slow down to see where they are going. Still, good fun to watch! M5-911 said:
