I did think that Jethro calling Mick Schumacher the most famous driver on the grid, when you have Jenson Button and Valentino Rossi there, was a bit weird.

I like Martin Haven personally. Yes he does go OTT every now and again, but on the whole I think he does a good job. As has been said, you need an enthusiastic commentator alongside the pundits.
One good thing about Haven,he isn't Carlton Kirby, or Mark Cole

I used to pay for the WEC app just to avoid the Eurosport commentary

Agreed that you need an enthusiastic commentator, but Haven keeps forgetting he's a just commentator and assumes that he's an expert pundit as well smile

Unlike many I actually dont mind Shaven's comms, he just comes across as overly enthusiastic, the worst by far is Kirby he is possibly the worst sports commentator I have ever experienced and I am sure he holds some dirt on people at Eurosport, because the cycling people hate him aswell so Lord knows how he keeps a job, I think he speaks about 4 languages so that is possibly why.

The other thing I alike about Haven is he has a pop at the director, and always has done for showing stuff that is utterly meaningless like the endless pit sts the current idiot who directs WEC feeds does.

Showing 'reaction' shots in the pits seems to be de rigeur for motor racing these days.

You can have a tense on track battle (Which, let's be honest, anyone watching the WEC has tuned in for, not f'ing celebs in the pits) and you have to see the drivers' girlfriends/wives/mothers/brothers/children/neighbours looking anxious in the pits instead.

Presumably TV directors believe we all really want to watch Gogglebox!

It's worse in motoGP races as they're too short to waste with pit box excitement / heart rate monitor updates.

Same as showing random people in the crowd during football or rugby matches.

There's probably some technical reason they do it, giving them to a few seconds to get the main cameras back on the action or something.

Actual racing on now, MX5s at Sebring, yesterdays and todays races both on the Racer channel on YouTube, no reaction shots, just close racing.
IMSA qualifying and the rest of the support racing today on IMSA tv, then the 12 hours tomorrow.

You're too late for qualifying, the race starts at 13.40, which is an hour earlier than normal

IMSA Races are always live on their website, but putting it on YT opens it up to a wider audience

Don’t recall them doing it before

Also makes it easier to get onto my telly, IMSA TV is very variable as to whether chromecast is enabled, might be plagued with ads on Youtube though

Ouch. Talk about hero to zero for Pipo!

Sad for the gtd ferrari, he did nothing wrong.

Glad it's on youtube - stream on telly with app is >>> stream on website to laptop and screenshare then pray that audio and vision both stream wirelessly to my tv (it works sometimes)!

Also frees up the laptop for live timing.

In other nees, any idea what happened to the purple lmp,2 and the united csrs? They seem to be off the pace despite rocking it in quali...

Having the race on YouTube is a massive plus.
The place looks absolutely rammed, got to get back there one day.
How would they have got Derani out if the hybrid warning light had been on?

They’ve only shown one angle, but looks like a penalty coming for Mako. Porsche only seem to be able to get one car near the front at a time, the 7 not being quick enough with Cameron driving in particular

Odd that Hindhaugh was calling it straight away, yet never once suggested Derani was at fault for his crash

Surprised no action, so can only assume it looked rather different from the onboards

Having the race on YouTube was excellent, hopefully they will continue with that into the future.

A nasty smash but luckily he was ok because the response time seemed a little slow compared to a European circuit.

But the guy in the red t shirt at 0-30 clearly thought he was going to save the day until…. rofl

That was a minute and 18 seconds, from the time the car came to rest to the time the first marshal touched it. yikes

The driver was very lucky there was no fire, as there was no way he could have extracted himself given the position of the car and the tyre wall. Six-and-a-half minutes he was upside-down, until the recovery crane could lift the car enough to open the door. Had to LOL that only in America would the recovery truck be sponsored and namechecked by the commentators!

Can’t say I like the 4’ fence at that location either, which in this accident could easily have ended up with the car in a spectator area and the wrong sort of headlines. That media stand might have been in the wrong place at the wrong time too, memories of Sophia Floersch’s massive crash into one of those at Macao a few years back.
