I hear Murray Walker was at yesterday's Silverstone test and has signed up to do the commentary for Speed TV?

Was anyone at Silverstone yesterday?

What do these things sound & go like?

He should have been put out to pasture in about 1980.
They really must be desperate.

Now I am really looking forward to this - be nice to visit a race if they do one in the UK as I need a few signatures on some biographies - strangely enough, De Crasherish is not one of them

my money is on jan lammers to win, anyone who has seen him do one of his qualifying specials at le mans in his dome in recent years would surely agree with that

Can't wait - ".....I'm just about to stop the start-watch".....etc. He's still the best commentator. Just not the most accurate.

Mansell must be favourite, he has been testing at Pembery quite regularly and spending a lot of time on the set up. I think he is taking it quite seriously, he has already had a few digs at a certain big nosed Frenchman!

I think most of the drivers are in it for the fun of it. I am looking forward to seeing old footage of Emerson Fittipaldi looking like Noddy Holder and lots of people saying "for sure" a lot. thats propoer F1 nostalgia!

Eric, I dont see your issue with Motorsport on BBC, bar F1 (when they had it!) the sport simply doesnt attract the long term viewers to justify the BBC including it, even on the graveyard shifts. No one can force you to subscribe to Satellite television but you are missing out on a lot of good motorsport coverage by not doing so. Autosport carry all the motorsport programmes listong on satellite, so you can see what you are missing. I dont think the BBC will ever show live motorsport again and if the GP Masters is a success, SKy will most likely buy that. Sadly for the BBC its a lost cause competing.

Does anyone know who's running the cars? Will there be teams, or is the series run like FPA?

agreed. Motor Racing has never been the same without him.

I wouldn't be half as excited if that simpering "should be working in the merchandise tent" fwit Allen was in the box.

Excellent observation pablo! And I thought I was the only one who noticed stuff like that !

A shame that the Grand Prix Masters, you know, the main Brazilian and the French-Canadian aren't around to join in this seniors ball. Now that would be something special...

I don't agree - the BBC could put a lot more into this and benefit. Personally I'm not sure most of the public are aware of the event at all yet it's guaranteed a decent audience given a bit of publicity. Look at A1GP - I had loads of people talking about this to me, and a lot of them have virtually zero interest in motorsport at all. Sky Sports put in the investment, have a great live coverage package, pay Metro newspaper to cover it daily for a fortnight and a special cover for the Friday edition before the inaugural event.

I had a look in the BBC-affiliated Radio Times at what's lined up for Sunday. A small entry at the end of Grandstand after 3-odd hours of Rugby that made it sound like a bunch of geriatrics out on a jolly for the day. Is there honestly anyone out there not on a car or motorsport forum that has any interest in this event? Probably not as most of them have no idea it's going on.

The BBC clearly do not have the motorsport enthusiasts within their team and as such the write up in the Radio Times is as good as it will get. Des Lynam left the BBC when they lost Match of the Day because he wanted to talk about football and present the show wherever it went. Motorsport enthusiasts working within television will not stay at the BBC if they dont have the coverage, thus the few events they do cover will not get any footage. You say that those non-motorsport forum users will be unaware of GPM, i dont argue with you, but I would question whether or not they would watch it if they did. Would a non motorsport firum user know who people like Rene Arnoux and Jacques Laffite are? I doubt it. Therego the BBC would be trumpeting the whole thing on the back of Mansell.

A1GP got Sky TV on board becasue Sky WILL pay for the advertising and put a lot of weight behind it. The BBC just dont do this unless it is Football. I was pleased with the A1GP coverage but there is no way BBC would have shown the qualifying from Brands live, nor got someone like Andy Priaulx to front it. No, if it were on the BBC it would have been Hazel bloody Irvine or someone!

And lets face it, it is a bunch of old men out on a jolly isnt it?!?!

Prost is driving cars on frozen ponds this weekend and Warwick is rumoured to have had a word with BMW and secured himself one of those trick engines he had in his USF&G Arrows
