Yep 5k / driver including insurance, fuel, tyres and 1 test day, we're literally doing it at cost without skimping on the bits, the car is a potential podium car

Hi, i'll be heading to this event to spectate. Last year sounds like it did'nt have much going on bar the race. Does anyone know if this years will be different. 24hrs is a long time as I know from many Le Mans spectator endurances.

Bars, food, trade stands any static things to see?

I gather the circuit is accessable from a spectator point of view for the full 24? What access do you have the paddock area? Obviously the pits is OOB but is noce to glance through from the paddock as whats going on as did in the Silverstone Classic last w/e.

cheers

Last year there were a grand total of 93 paying customers - no self promotion took place. This year is different although actual details of what attractions will be in place are sketchy. I did notice this morning that you can buy Britcar 24 Hour tickets on Ebay - we have arrived!

Regarding your other point - the pits are not out of bounds. Infact far from it, the series prides itself about not being up its own bottom and anyone is free to wander in and out of garages as they please. Most of the teams (the Britcar regulars) are only to happy to spend time with any spectators who makes the effort to pop in.

Sorry Jemco, but the pit lane is Out Of Bounds to spectators - for Everybodys' safety.

By all means speak to punters in the garage (which I beleive is what you mean by pits), but not in the lane. It's bad enough for us marshals to see what is happening with just team personnel and media about.

Cheers for the replies chaps

Pit lane is very good for pics (found that at the Classic) but would be a massacre with cars flying in/out over the 24hrs mixed with spectators but good news the garages will be ok to check out.

94 last year, blimey thats an unbelievably low gate. Will be interessting to see over the next month or so what kind of interest is generated for this years.

Mutley - sorry of course you are correct. Garages ok, pit lane

Anyway if the weather is anything like last year - why would you want to leave the warm dry garages and stand in the pit lane. Let the drivers get themselves out of the car!

Can ne1 confirm if the practice on friday is open to spectators?

Silverstone website says it is but the official website does not mention it.

Would be nice to head up on the friday, setup camp and have a leasurly wander round in the afternoon b4 the 24.

Having attended last years 24 hours and the Classic last week end, i can confirm the access for both events is pretty much the same. Basically, you can go pretty much anywhere except the pit lane

Now lets all pray for nice weather

And hopefully they'll be a bit more generous with letting us punters actually bring our cars in so we can base ourselves within the confines of the circuit, unlike last year. Especially if the weather's anything like 2005...(24 hour powerboat race anyone?)

Yes I think a promise from the weather dept of good weather will really bring the crowds in.

Fully reading this thread I really wish is had a 5k spare as a 24hr endurance would be awesome thing to take part in.

Ne1 know for sure of any thing else to see over the duration of the race whilst there?

You can pick up a drive for less than £5k not with us I'm afraid our drivers are already paid up but theres allot of teams that still need drivers.

Call Claire at the EERC and then start negotiating with the cheaper teams she tells you about. Thats sort of how I picked up my first 24hr drive years ago and you maybe suprised what you get. Some teams will be glad to have someone just covering 1 stint.

*/Blatant Plug/*

Team Scandal have seats available in the Britcar 24H.

We are entering both the Lotus (that ran last year to 2nd in Cup class), and our ProSport LM3000 (that got banned from Brit GT for being too fast!).

These are very much competitive entries not only in their classes, in the overall standings, thus we are looking for committed peddlers with serious endurance racing experience, capable of holding a consistent pace over multi-hour stints.

Ideally, both cars would run most competitively as 3 driver entries, however, we are willing to look at running 4 in the right circumstances.

If you are interested in further info, please contact us at info@team-scandal.com

Change of plans for this weekend - now heading up Friday morning to pitch up and get a load of the qualifying and Friday afternoon lagers.

Never camped at Silverstone before (stayed at a pub last time with a very funny story) so need to know where the best place to pitch up. The eerc website has a phone number for Whittlebury Golf club which looks far too classy/expensive. Found some other farms nearby but could do with some advice.

Will be trucking on over with my Le Mans co-pilot from this year keeping me supplied with cigars again - what a trooper!!!!

PH flag at the ready for the campsite!

Will be arriving late on the Friday night for this one, shouldn't be too hard to find somewhere to put the tent up at 9pm

Just booked tickets for the weekend so will be going down there Friday morning to pitch up and watch the practice sessions.

We've booked at Whittlebury Hall (that phone number on the Britcar advert) and it's just £30 for the 3 days. Think we'll be heading for the lakeside camping area which is nearer to the grandstands/Copse area.

Should be easy to spot - Corvette, PH flag, 2 drunk blokes, cigar smoke........

Just been studying the entry list - makes interesting reading.

Mazda Motors Ltd fielding 3 RX8s - all drivers confirmed, including Martin Donnelly, Mike Wilds, Richard Chamberlain and Ian Flux.
