Ran a bike for a few years in street class.

Been a fan for 30 years, since my old man took to the pod on one of the very few times Don Garlits was in attendance.Pod looks very different these days.

Hoping to go to world (euro) finals next weekend if the weathers any good.

Its an expensive day out, with the potential for a lot of boredom if a fuel car grenades and oils the track, but of you love the sound of unmuffled LARGE v8's, its the only place to be.

Ran a few cars over the years at Santa Pod, my best was a 12.8 in a modified MR2 Turbo, have not run the VX yet.

Always willing to pop along if a few others are going.

I've had a few goes in my drift cars, just for fun. My old turbo'd MX-5 did a 14.3 on my first ever run not taken the soarer down yet but it has to be similar I'm guessing.

I run a snowmobile on the tarmac - 3 cylinder 1000cc 2 stroke in full NHRA Open Fuel spec. It runs C14 fuel and lots of nitrous to push out 450bhp. I have just got back fron the NitrOlympix at Hockenheim where I ran 8.800 secs - a new European record. On Saturday night I raced against a Super Gas car that crashed alongside me on a slightly damp track - a real adreneline trip! My site is at www.mad-max-racing.com and will be updated again this week.

We race a Top Methanol dragster, TMD3141. We will be at the Pod on the 7th, but arent expecting much as we lunched the Chevy on our last run out. We now have a Hemi to replace it, but i think that getting it to run right will take up most of the weekend. However, pop along and have a chat if you are in the Meth Pit.

It'd be good to catch up with you at the Euro's Slikk... We'll try to make it down to see you.. Either that, or you're more than welcome to venture on up to the Pro-ET pits and say hello..

I think the beer is long overdue, mate. Will see you there (either over the moon with the engine or needing anti depressants)

Ditto that.

Slikk, what team do you crew for, will try and keep a look out for you.

I'll see how you do too Slink. Maybe I'll bring you a beer!

nono £46 for the weekend? Pretty cheap I'd say. Last time I went to Touring Cars it was £30ish. And that doesn't include the kind of pit access that you get at the Pod.

Hmmm...maybe ok for weekend tix, bit Im busy Sunday, so that means £28 (?) without checking the website.

I think Im prob a bit biased as have been a spec and a racer over the last 30 years. still cany beleive fuelers and meth cars arent wearing engine diapers and ablow up loses so much time.I know perfromance is amazing from the top boys these days, but me and I think a lot of others would rather watch grumpy, slikks team, and the Turners run 5.4 and 27 odd pro mods run as low 6.3, and all the CCSE boys without all the massive oil downs the fule boys cause.

Dont get me wrong, drags are in my blood and I love just being stood on the bank at the pod, but oildowns and the poxy wheely car/truck bore me to tears , and having spent $$$$ to get in, wish they could find a BETTER way to deal with the problem

25 minutes for a full length oil down at the main event..

They've certainly got a lot better at clearup than they used to be!

It's fecking annoying for both spectators and racers alike when there is downtime, but it does give you plenty of opportunity to re-stock with beers/ice cream/hot dogs/coffee etc etc, or go for a wonder into the fuel/meth pits without missing any racing... (he says desperately trying to find something positive in an oil down!)

Engine Diapers have been mandatory in European Pro classes for some years now. Fuel Cars and Methanol cars also wear SFI spec engine sheilding around the heads and supercharger. I was priviledged to serve the SPRC a few years ago, and was fortunate enough to have press access to trackside for a couple of seasons. You would not believe the difference getting those extra dozen or so feet closer makes, even off the startline. I borrow a very accurate description of the experience from Tog of www.eurodragster.com 'Standing at 60' as a fuel car comes past is like sitting on a spin dryer, whilst the door to a hot oven is opened in front of your face, as someone beats you about the head and upper body with a double mattress'. I used to regularly dodge bits of engine, and believe me, when the marshalls seem to be taking a long time preparing the track, ensuring it is totally dry, it is with very good reason. The promotors have a perpetual problem with what to do with this time. the oildowns 'bore you to tears', but when the wheelie car, or stunt shows, are sent out to entertain you, this is also boring for you.

I will be there at the finals, on the banking, enjoying what is far and away the best value motorsports weekend in the country, and looking forward to seeing the first all four second top fuel field in europe slug it out. I urge you all to do the same.

Good luck Slik, Slink, and any other PH'ers who are taking part. Have a safe and successful event.

OK they still and will always have delays to the racing.
In my view part of the attraction is going around the pits, watching the teardowns/warm-ups, talking to the crews (if they are not too busy) - I actually need a break from the racing at times.
Re: the cost, OK if you buy a day ticket on the day you pay max dollar, I always buy an advance weekend one (remember this is for 4 days racing) even if I do not attend all days.
Also SPR have given pretty generous credits at the last 2 euro rounds for bad weather (25 last September, 10 this May).

Dont get me wrong, like I say, Im a huge fan, and if the weather is anything like dry, I WILL be there saturday.

I guess the oil down entertainment is ok the first few times you see it........

As for pit walks or burger runs, thats what everybody else is doing, I prefer to go thru the pits when the jets are running.

I also agree that the pod really does seem to more and more pro with every season.

The reaaly ironic thing is that I built my Fury with the whole notion of being for drag use....unfortunately, I shook it down at a circuit with corners and got hooked up with roundy roundy stuff...otherwise, I would probably be racing at the pod regularly again.....
