To be honest when Brundle interviewed Max on the grid - I thought Max defended their position well. His explanation seemed plausible (that Alonso's wake caused Massa problem in Parabolica).
However - if they interpret the rules that strictly - then I cannot believe that this does not happen pretty much in every qualifying session for every race.
So of course that begs the question - why are they applying the rules so strictly this time?
(maybe in fact, Ferrari are the first ones to have complained about this, sa far)

According to the ITV F1 website, the rules state that a driver on an out lap must let a driver on a hot lap past. Alonso couldn't let Massa past because he wouldn't have had time to reach the start line before the session ended, so he kept in front and argueably cost Massa time. I would be surprised if the stewards could (or would) punish Alonso if some rule had not been broken, the stewards after all approved the Renault mass damper after the FIA had ruled it illegal.

Massa wasn't close enough for Alonso to let him past.

He would have been if Alonso had slowed down and moved off line.
