Why is it anymore difficult than football or cricket?? When England are a shames in these sports then you get reporting that points out the obvious failings and tells it like it is..

What you don't get is a mere copy and paste of a media release from the team.

Only two weeks ago Honda were quoted as not writing off the season and that they will step forward for Canada, etc, etc

Button has been beaten everytime so far by Rubens. Its not good enough and its not what is expected and the media are just not reporting anything other than what they are being spoon fed.

There is an awfull lot that goes on behind the scenes that Joe public dosen't hear about, & will never hear about. Most of the what the press get told is at best diluted.

I get the feeling you're just narked that despite the start of this season giving you the first semi credable titbit of ammunition to bash Button's recent record (misguided though it is), you can't quote any of the intelligent / knowledgable motorsport press to back up your argument.

Maybe its simply because they don't agree with you?

At the end of the day its pretty obvious that a smooth driving style such as Button's lends itself more than normal to a predictable and stable car, so Im not suprised that he's not beating Rubens at the moment. It would be stupid for him to try and adjust his style to suit the car though when its so slow and you'd hope is going to be improved or replaced within the next few months anyway.

Of course there is but then that is true for any sport..

OK i'll give an example...When ITV interview Button or Nick Fry you normally get this type of question:-

"Must be pretty frustrating at the moment for you, what is the problems?"

And then Button/Fry just switch to the stock

"yeah the car just isn't quite there yet, but the guys are working hard to improve and blah, blah"

Why don't they say what needs saying?

Ask Fry:- "Pretty poor performance so far this season, and as the guy responsible will you step down if it doesn't improve by the British GP?"

Ask Button:- "You haven't beaten Rubens so far this season, are you stuggling more than he is with the 07 car or have you lost the will to fight?"

Put them on the spot and at the very least we will get something worth listening too..

Problem is that'll be the last interview you get granted if you start asking questions like that. Career over

Reported April 7th - F1 Business and Bernie Ecclestone:-

Apr.7 (GMM) Bernie Ecclestone on Saturday advised Jenson Button to grit his teeth and work through Honda's crisis. Button appeared frustrated with Honda's dismal form in Malaysia and on Saturday told reporters that only his "crap" car is preventing him from being a major force in F1. "If I was in a McLaren or a car at the front I'd be doing a very good job," he promised.

Bernie, however, said: "He needs to get his head down. Ok, so his current problems may not be his fault, and it's a shame they've happened, but he's just got to get things back on track." Bernie agrees that, at the age of 27, time is running out for Button to remain high on teams' lists of sought after potential world champions. Ecclestone said: "Jenson really must get his act together this year, otherwise he's going to find the future very difficult, that's what it amounts to."

Normally when you already have your act together your not told that you must get things together...one assumes that Ecclestone is closer to things than you or I...

Maybe he has been getting his head down....just not with the job of driving...

Apr.7 (GMM) Honda racer Jenson Button strolled into the Sepang paddock on Saturday morning with a new model. It was not, however, a 'B' version of his disappointing RA107, but 21-year-old blonde beauty and new girlfriend Florence Brudenell-Bruce. The pair held hands at the scene of Sunday's Malaysian grand prix, amid whispers that Brudenell-Bruce is a university student who descended from Britain's earls of Cardigan. They recently holidayed together in St. Tropez.

Nothing wrong with that and all but sadly when times are tough it isn't the time to be flashing the new bird around...

Football and F1 are not even remotely on the same level.

Formula One is a much 'darker' sport than most people (even those hardcore fans supposedly in the know) realise.

You think football is corrupt? They don't even know they're born!

He's good, but he aint *that* good, which is what you need to be world champion.I just dont think he wants it bad enough.

Lewis, OTH, *appears* to be quite keen on the idea.......based on what the media have shown of him.

Im not in any inner circles anywhere in F1, but I think he Lewis looks hungrier than JB ever did.

Just my 2p worth.

IIRC he's been seeing her since the middle of last year sometime so its just usual journo rubbish, just goes to show what type of article you read to get all your F1 insider knowledge though

If you're not a journo, I suggest you reserve judgement on the journalistic abilities of Autosport. Reporting on F1 is a lot harder than it seems.

But to be fair he does have a point - but then this isn't unique to F1 is it? I like to think that Mark Hughes and Nigel Roebuck are able to convey their views without having to cast a glance over their shoulders.

It's true - he's been with her for longer than 7th April - the exact date doesn't really matter does it? In fact, who gives a to$$? My sister was privy to some information regarding the sexuality of a current F1 driver....didn't make a blind bit of difference to his abilities in my eye and I can't see why this should be an issue with Button - another piece of crap from the mainstream....

I wouldn't disagree in the boardest sense, he can go out with who he likes, when he likes - but then I don't pay his wages. Sadly for him he has been beaten so far this year by his team mate and unfortunately when that happens the pressure will always follow.

If that is not the case where has Ecclestones comments come from:-

Bernie, however, said: "He needs to get his head down. Ok, so his current problems may not be his fault, and it's a shame they've happened, but he's just got to get things back on track." Bernie agrees that, at the age of 27, time is running out for Button to remain high on teams' lists of sought after potential world champions. Ecclestone said: "Jenson really must get his act together this year, otherwise he's going to find the future very difficult, that's what it amounts to."

Yet you read the story in F1 racing and its not a piece of journalism - its not much more than a transcript of an interview; or another outlet for Button PR.

In your time honoured tradition of cherry picking stats to suit the argument, I'll pick the one that shows Button outqualifying his team mate 2:1 so far this season, so can we now end this discussion?

Now that Rubens has shown comparatively better race pace (in 2 races) though you seem to prefer using those stats instead, in which case your previous arguments about last season do seem to collapse by the wayside because most of that was based on Button not beating Rubens in qualifying!

Anyway, back to the present day - so Button is 2:0 down in race results driving the most ill handling car on the grid that's been eating tyres and doing oddball things when setup changes are made, but he's not exactly being blown away by Rubens (unlike last year in reverse) so mountain / molehill situation on your behalf IMHO. If it continues to happen throughout the season and his race pace doesn't better Rubens then I'll agree with you, and that in essence is what Bernie is saying - that it will (in the future) be more difficult for him if he / the team don't turn things around this year, but as mentioned on numerous occasions he comprehensively outperformed Rubens in a decent car last year, and you don't suddenly lose that ability over a winter.
