If you do want to go 24 hour racing then get fit.

Forget all the bollox about coffee and red bull. A momentary high followed by a long dip.

Drink loads of water, eat properly - pasta and other foods that steadily release energy. Don`t touch sweets or sugary drinks as the result is the same as coffee / red bull.

Even if you are just there for the crack preparing your body is "free" advantage. The other thing I would suggest is to get loads of practice on the circuit so that at night you know just where to turn in, where all the bumps areand so on. You won`t be able to use distant marks such as the mad tree at Sear or markers at the bomb hole. You need to feel the track around you more and that comes from experience. It`s also very hard to learn the circuit at night and all the drivers will need to do their night stints in order that everyone gets some sleep.

Finally make sure you`ve got somewere to rest. If you don`t own a motorhome then rent one for the weekend. Oh and eat carrots as I`ll wager 2CV lights aren`t quite as good as the ones we use on the GT3 !

The best of luck !!

Henry

I think your getting a bit carried away there Henry, its a bunch of guys, most over 40, having a laugh doing a "Le Mans style race." After the race everyone has a few pints, packs away and then go home.

Driving a 2cv for a 2hr stint won't be half as tiring as 30 mins in a Porsche GT3. Its a bit of a laugh, nothing too serious, unless you are called Alan Gow or ... its a 2cv race after all!

There is now a second team sorted with a car. Drop me a line and I'll pass your details on to Art who's looking after that one.

My profile won't allow me to email you directly. Could you please pass my interest in the B Team onto Art?

Thanks, Jason

As I was too slow off the blocks to get into the first PH 2CV - I've managed to get the second car. I've PM'd a few of you above who expressed an interest - please do get in touch if this hasn't worked or if you're interested. I've a few expressions of interest but not guaranteed definates. Also bear with me - I don't always have much access to email.

cheers,

I can tell you that 2hrs in a 2cv at 3 in the morning seems like one heck of a long time. Particularly if your car's not very quick and you're watching your mirrors. And don't underestimate what it'll take to get in the top half of the field - some of the teams have their cars set up to chug along at a fair old lick.

I think Henry has some good tips - why not make it easier for yourself. But the most important thing to remember is that it's 24hrs and you're probably in a car that's 20 years old so look after it.

Looking back through this thread now makes me feel very glad that we have PH forums - without the OP I wouldn't have done the race - cheers Ted!

Henry - your advice was spot on for me personally - if I'd not taken up running & improving my diet back in March I'd be an even fatter batard now & would have found the two-hour stints even harder work than they were.

The race gave me a focus to lose weight and get fitter - not only did it work but I reckon it was a darn sight cheaper than gym membership AND I got to race for 24hours into the bargain!

Others - yep - spot on about how serious many of the teams are - we were there just for fun and to try our best.

Thank-you all!
