Personally I think this season will be much more open, but we've also got lots of new young talent that I'm keen to watch developing. I'm viewing this season as a kind of qualifying session for the 2008 season, which is when I hope the real spirit of F1 returns.

Agreed,. Although I respect him immensely as a driving talent, the departure of Schuey increased my anticipation for the new season, in conjunction with Alonso/Raikkonen hopping seats and Lewis getting the Mclaren drive as well.

The obvious talents of Kovalainen, Hamilton, Kubica and Davidson will be entertaining to follow, more in terms of how they perform against expectations rather than against each other.

Raikkonnen vs Alonso will be interesting, though I really hope that the equipment is largely equal. I would love to see them compete on equal terms (the next best thing to a Schumacher/Raikonnen Ferrari lineup).

It's a popular view but I do think Coulthard will make his presence felt this year and also Liuzzi in the B-team car. I think Massa (as much as I dislike him) will keep Kimi honest for this season and may prove to be a serious contender. That's why I suspect Ferrari will have the constructor's championship this year. The driver's title will come down to whether the Alonso's McLaren or Raikkonnen's Ferrari is more reliable IMO. My hunch is to go with Raikkonnen.

What?! Absolute garbage! Anyone who truly considers themselves a race fan turned it off about 5 years ago.

If youre chess playing master strategist maybe. Or if you have an interest simply because of the technological showcase that is now the only exciting part of it.

Id love some figures on how many NEW fans are drawn to F1 each year. Seriously, what is there to captivate a young bloke now? And dont call yourself a racefan and say "The Glamour" cause thats not racing.

The only fans left are still there because of sentimental value (they cant face turnig it off after following it for so long) and people who go and watch because it fits their jetset persona.

Im as upset about it as anyone but Im not going to sit and pretend its still worth the steam off my piss just cause I feel bad about what its become. Even if I wanted to support it, I couldnt afford to go to a race. And why would I? MOTOGP is 10 times the entertainment for a fraction of the cost.

I will be there in front of the telly for the first couple of races, hoping against hope that something will ignite the series and convince me to watch the rest. But theres only so many years Ill keep up this vigil.

Why the f*ck are you reading, let alone posting on this thread then? Don't have a go at people just because they enjoy something. Clearly something is missing from your life.

With the F1 season just around the corner and teams testing to the max, I was just wondering what peoples thoughts for the forth-coming season are?

Hang on! The thread title is "F1 thoughts". Those are my thoughts! Whats wrong with you people? If it said "F1 thoughts (as long as theyre blinkered and in favour of F1)", I could understand your ire.
I didnt actually have a go at anyone for liking it.
Why dont you reply with a reasoned response to my points instead of "You dont agree with us so you can off."?

Opinions - Keep them to yourself shout UNLESS THE THREAD TITLE ASKS YOU FOR THEM

If it wasn't for opinions (whether we agree with them or not) this place would be nothing more than a wikipedia.

True if you want to simply read the title and first line of the thread and misinterpret its meaning, but if you actually read the OP's entire post as well as the title, he was clearly asking for people's thoughts on the new season, discussing the relative competitiveness of the teams and which drivers might be fighting for the titles. It is blatantly obviously not a thread designed to provoke the debate on whether F1 is good entertainment or not, so why do the naysayers always feel compelled to turn such threads into one?

This is why people who follow and like discussing F1 on forums get annoyed with comments like this, not because its not a valid debate to have, but because whenever F1 gets mentioned regardless of context, it invariably ends up getting dragged down the same route by people such as yourself.

Can I predict Kimi not being with Ferrari by the end of the season?

That's my opinion.

I reckon Mr Button could be well worth watching. He got a lot of points in the last few races of last season. He matured a lot as a racer last year and added a lot of overtaking agression to his already smooth style. He has the immense advantage going into this season of being settled in his team. Kimi and Alonso are both at the bottom of steep learning curves with new teams.

Kimi is the fastest thing in Formula 1 but he is very hard on his cars, so Ferrari is probably the right place for him, they make tough cars. Also he can't concentrate and makes lots of silly mistakes. Alonso is not as fast but he is almost mistake proof and drives with his brain. Lets hope Ron bolts his cars together properly this year, it would make a change. These are obviously the best 2 drivers currently.

The new boys look very, very promising. Kubrica looks very good and the BMW had been going well pre season. Rosberg looks the least promising of the new intake. I think he is too pretty and knows it.

I think Weber will be found out this year. Coulthard will get twice as many points, if not more. Also I think it will be Rubens last season, he seems to have lost the hunger.

That will do for now, I will probably be back with a little more later.

Agree with you on Button, Im a bit worried about the car though. It hasnt looked promising in pre-season testing but hopefully it will be a reverse of the last couple of years when they've pretty much won the "winter championships" only to be found slightly lacking when it came to the races, particularly outright race pace compared to Ferrari and Renault.

Roll on March 18th, flag drops, bullshit stops. I'm pretty sure we are in for a treat, more overtaking, more winners, more breakages, in fact more of everything.
Alonso is going to confirm himself as a class act, and Kimi hopefully will make Massa look silly.
Glad the race is on early doors as we wouldn't want Mothers day diversions spoiling a humdinger of a race.

Well said. I have been watching F1 sense 1986 when Mansell tyre blow out in Australia, given the tittle to Mr Prost. I manage to watch the 1991 F1 race at spa about a week ago, Prost, Senna, Mansell all fighting it out on track and not in the pits, and it was just fantastic to watch. And then I realised why I loved this sport so mush, it was amazing to see these cars race on track wheel to wheel.

It is a shame F1 has lost most of it racing. Maybe F1 should get back to being a sport again?

To be fair to 308 the comment he quoted basically says that if you don't like F1 then you can't consider yourself a true race fan. This is just as likely to get someone's back up as 308's comments.

have been keeping an eye on winter testing and think it might start off with;

Ferrari just in front of Mclaren then Renault not too far behind then BMW.

I'd guess; Raikonen, Massa/Alonso, then Hamilton Kovalinen then Fisichella then Heidfeld/Kubica but who knows whats really gona happen?

Hope to see Massa & Fisichella beaten by their respective team mates.
