The best one I have EVER seen is Stefan Johansson in qualifying at Monaco in a turbo F1 Ferrari, it would have been around 1986/87. The guy got the picture from about 15 feet away from the car, I think he was exiting Casino square at the time.

It is awesome.

The snapper was German, IIRC, something like Ranler Schlegeler (apologies if I've got that completely wrong)

Anyone know where I can get a high res version of this image? Would love it on the wall at home.

Yeah the M3 GTR - nice. MC12 le mans - the problem was down to the width and the front and rear over hangs. They built the car and didn't really consult the ACO then some more politics from other manufacturers and the up shot is either Fiat group can't be bothered or can't afford to re-engineer.

That was absolutely awesome at Silverstone last year, best place to hear it was just at the entrance to bridge, was the best sound ever.

I've always thought the DTM cars give good value for money with their flame spitting abilities.

But best flames of all?

Has to be this thing.

Normally not a fan of the 996 or huge aftermarket spoliers but there's just something about this picture....

Just scanned this from a photo I took in 1989 in the woods before Indianapolis corner. A long exposure of a Mazda 787B entering the corner. Now that was a long flame!

Is that close enough for you?

Say hello to Michael for me!

(He should know me from my profile pic. He was the other driver that day although that's Anthony Reid in the photo.)

Cheers,

Neil

First time I have done it - that was at the end of a long straight and a few cars were popping n banging there. That was a 400mm lens prefocused and shot at about 3fps, the main thing is to start shooting before you see the flame as it will be gone if you react to it. I shot about 15-20 frames overall and that was the best. Such a fabulous car though, drool.
