Take him to a good clubbie at Donington or Oulton, or maybe the World Series by Renault or "GP Live" at Donington, if you want a more "prestigous" event.

Better tracks, a better view for the spectator, probably a better "show" allround plus the chance to get in to the pits and have a close look round. Donington has the added attraction of the Grand Prix museum. All of these will be substanially cheaper than the GP & you could probably spectate at 10 clubbies for the cost of 1 GP!

Alternatively, if Silverstone is convenient for you how about the BRSCC Clubbie on 14/ 15 April - Caterhams & F Fords, amongst other, I think. Usually good for the spectator. If you are there on the sunday the Monoposto Racing Club are racing single seaters, me included. If he wants to get a sit in a racing car (albeit a scruffy one!) then send me a PM & we'll see what can be arranged.

All good fun, but it's not F1 is it.

It's pity though - when I was (much) younger, I remember being invited into the garage of the Williams BTCC team to have a look around. This was on a race day, before the race. I got to sit in the car and talk to Alain Menu - it was great! I don't think you'd get within fifty feet these days.

As for the Eff One, Luffield 1 and 2 is a really good place to watch from, and the Maggotts/Becketts complex is good too - especially if you want to check out the different driving styles.

I'll be sitting in copse but that is all sold out now, you could try luffield that is pretty good. If you want to follow what is going on, take, or buy at silverstone, a personal radio so you can listen to the commentary.

Oh and remember - sun cream and a hat if it is weather like last year!

Make a weekend of it and cam there too.

If you can get there with him on the Friday, you'll have the chance to see F1 cars from where ever. Less so but still possible on the Saturday as well.

The camping bit should be fun too - lots of commaraderie and other lads to kick a ball round / play swingball with too.

If it's Silverstone with a young un I'd splash out for grand stand seats. Then he'll be able to see in comfort, and there will almost certainly be a large screen opposite.

We always get a three day pass & really get into it. If you get a grandstand ticket, days 1 & 2 are roaming, so you can walk right round the circuit at your leisure.

I personally went off the Festival of Speed a few years ago....now, the Revival is a different kettle of mashings altogether!

Just been on the Silverstone web site and they are still showing 'Club Silverstone' tickets available. These are for the Beckets complex about £350 per ticket.
Me and my two sons went watched from there last year (although not Club Silverstone tickets, just normal three dayers with allocated seats on race day) and it was fantastic, all the races that is, not just the F1.
I always take a small portable TV with head set, although last year we had a screen right in front so just we tuned our mobile phones to radio Silverstone with head phones and could follow the races no problem.

You are right - its far better than that!! Mind you, GP Live at Donington Park definately is F1....FIA Historic F1 (used to be called Thoroughbred GP, or Something), EuroBoss, The Minardi F1x2 demonstration

www.gpliveuk.com/GPlive-introduction/introduction.asp

The programme for the weekend is on there too.

Definately worth a look, rather than paying HOW MUCH for the Silverstone GP tickets!

The FoS is rammed now - that's its big problem. Of course the advantage is that you can get reasonably close to the cars...if you don't mind queueing and jostling on any of the days.

The outside of Bridge is IMHO the best place to view - especially if you can see the cars approaching Bridge - it's an awesome corner.

Edited to add that if you do go for all 3 days, Friday is a good day to walk anti-clockwise round the whole circuit and stop off at the key corners. That's what I'll be doing this year

To re-cap onj what othret have said. Take ear plugs. You will need them. The first few laps are fine, but after 30 or so the noise is painful, and will spoil your enjoyment of the day.
