confusedPS. If your doing a speed event you will need a licence. When you get a licence you get a Blue Book.

My only advice would be never, ever skimp on safety gear. I wince when I think of people wondering what the minimum they can get away with is.

If you can afford to contemplate doing any form of motorsport (which is all expensive, regardless of shoe-string budgets), spend the extra couple of hundred quid for good gear - it makes sense.

I was running a car at Monza in the LMS a couple of weeks ago - and if you'd seen the massive fireball that engulfed the Luc Alphand pit in free practice you wouldn't, for a moment, contemplate buying the cheapest available race suit.

Same as racing - flames is flames - although I prefer 2 layer nomex to 3.

Thanks, I know that but if I had to buy a new suit & helmet I probably wouldn't bother with the licence either this year
It'll be a one off at the mo.
Cheers

Didn't realise you already had some kit.

Then I would suggest that you find a local event and go early in the morning ans seek out a scrutineer. Take your kit with you. They will tell you if it's legal.

I had a helmet that I had dropped and the gel coat had cracked so I took it to see what they said. They said they wouldn't stop me going out with it as it was built to the right standards but reminded me that it was my head that was inside it.

I bought a new one and claimed for the old one on my household insurance policy.
