GP2 is the formula you have to prove yourself in now before F1, not British F3. But as already said, there's more than just F1 out there. Not that many of them pay much!
Alot of people wouldn't complain if they just got to race for free.
yes Motor racing is a strange sport. For many of us racing costs hugely more than our mortages and holidays put together, and we're on the verge of not being able to afford it, yet some people race for free and others actually earn money from it! The other weird thing is that success in this manner isn't really related to ability. You need money to race, and you need even more money to do well; so it all pivots around money. It's very different to other sports (e.g. tennis) in that respect.

All you prove in GP2 is that you're good at crashing!
It is easier to crash when you are driving a much faster car though!

Actually I genuinely believe this year that GP2 does not have the best 20 or so young drivers, and that Formula Three, both British and Euroseries, would be a better place for an F1 boss to look for the best talent.
You may be right. In which case their managers should be getting their hotshots a GP2 drive next season.

So what do you race then? too write such a comment? you can race F3 for 20k even 10k if you want. You can race a kart at f3 speeds for not much money so NO motor racing is not a strange sport and like all sports there's only a few pros at the top.

  • The other weird thing is that success in this manner isn't really related to ability? - LOL so you think the top drivers are slow then?.... go take a test in an F3 car and see how you cope... they are very hard to drive on the limit, it's not just something you jump in and drive
FPA are slow compared to f3 cars and don't come anywhere near F3 in terms of engineering. Go have a poke around one :-)
