BBC Sports Personality of the Year
Discussion
What about overseas 'personality'? No more distinctive 'personality of the year' than Alonso I reckon!
Would be funny if LH wins the WDC and sports personality of the year, is in the studio with his trophy, as they set up a satellite link with Alonso to receive his.
You reckon he'd storm out in a huff?

Personality....are there any in sport and do the BBC have commercial rights to show them doing anything??? They won't pay ITV or Bernie for F1 coverage, they won't pay for Superbike race coverage, or superbike coverage. They won't pay for WTCC coverage nor will they pay for rugby world cup coverage. Colin McRae should get a posthumous award but that is unlikely!!
Laureus Sports Awards are way more interesting and the BBC should call the programme, sports performance not personality. Roger Federer will win the overseas personality of the year, although one or two cricketers from Australia or Sri Lanka may come close.

I wonder if James Sheppard will even get a mention ? Won every class at world level on his way to P1 see http://www.powerboatp1.com/public/read_news.asp?li...

BBC not keen on minority sports.... Discuss
Normally I would agree, but hasn't there been more F1 drivers winning BBC Sports Personality than there have been footballers? I was amazed when I heard that one!If you want a true 'minority' sport, in terms of TV coverage, I give you fishing. At international level England has one of the most powerful and accomplished squads, out of 3 men ever to win 3 world titles, 2 are English, and one of them is only one man ever to win 3 on the trot... Ever heard any of that mentioned on Sports Personality?

contender for post of the month
Kind of related, but only because this thread got me thinking about it - there's a good chance that Britain could experience a bit of a golden sporting year:
Hamilton - World F1 Champion
Priaulx - World Touring Car Champion
Toseland - World Superbike Champion
England Rugby Team - World Champions
I know that three out of those four are only possibilities, but bloody hell - that would be a turn up for the books!

Hamilton didn't even get a mention last year despite his GP2 win, I was disgusted. The young sports personality was between a table tennis player and Theo Walcott(who won), both of whom had shone promise but won nothing. Theo Walcott hadn't even played for Arsenal's first team.
Public perception of Hamilton's rise:
Hamilton goes karting
Boss of McLaren sees him and thinks he's pretty good.
10 years later he puts LH in an F1 car
He's brilliant, amazing how you can jump straight from a kart to an F1 car....
