If you want a true 'minority' sport, in terms of TV coverage, I give you fishing. At international level England has one of the most powerful and accomplished squads, out of 3 men ever to win 3 world titles, 2 are English, and one of them is only one man ever to win 3 on the trot... Ever heard any of that mentioned on Sports Personality?

I'm bound to offend some with this, but fishing a sport? A passtime, yes, but hardly sport.
Fishing does get far more coverage in our Sunday Times" than motorsport ever does. I get quite annoyed when flicking through the paper to see pages of photos of proud fisherboys going "ooh look what I killed, aren't I the big hero"...
Depends on how you class a 'sport', I would also class football a passtime for most people, i.e. a quick kick around in a park, etc. What is a sport, to my mind it is competition, and on that basis fishing easily counts. Fishing also has it's fair share of professionals who make a living from it, which would surely not be possible from a passtime.

As for killing fish. It is illegal to kill coarse fish, and most anglers would be as put out by it as you appear to be.

Surely you mean "course" fish? If I was fishing and some bloody trout swore at me I'd fish it out and beat it to death for sure biggrin

So if LH wins the WDC he'll get SP and if he loses the WDC he'll get young SP??
I agree the person vs the sport is a huge differance; think this year is very open.

I think it's a foregone conclusion smile

the only problem I can see, it's the BBC hosting the programe. Lewis is on ITV. So that means the Beeb will have to show clips from it's rival. I don't think they will enjoy doing that!

I dont think the "old rivalry" is quite the same now that satelite tv is in the ascendency, its just a matter of paying the "rights" money to show the clips!

Nope, coarse fishing is correct, as in fresh water rivers, streams, lakes, etc.

I am sure if LH wins and appears in his overalls, Vodafone or Johnnie Walker will pay! There is also a whole load of McLaren testing video footage which is outside of Bernie's clutches!

It depends on how he loses it - look at Mansell in '86 and Hill in '94.

Personally I don't care who wins. It's just a piece of BBC marketing for a sports highlights show.

Theres not many sports people out there who dominated his sport world wide for so long and you would probably understand the skill involved in this sport.I rode trials with Dougy as a youth and competed on the SSDT this year where are you from?

Which is now outdated as they carry little on their airwaves.

I reckon Murray should win .... oh hang on he doesn't have a personality.

maybe the wrong forum here but I reckon Calzaghe should have it-or maybe hatton depending on next weeks result.
