It's been confirmed that Todt is stepping down as the F1 team boss in January. Should be interesting to see how Ferrari behave without napolean next year.

I was just about to post this up. Domenicali to take over.

Now all we need is an announcement that Mosley is stepping down with immediate effect and the world will be a happy place again!

IMO, the core problem at Ferrari has been, and remains, the half-Monte, rather than Jean Todt, who will be missed.

You think? His history of cheating goes back as far as replacing a wrecked 905 at Le Mans with a fresh tub that had the old chassis number glued to it IIRC.

I was not aware of the 905 incident.
I always have believed (or, at least, since The Godfather, pt I) that the fish rots from the head.
I see that Todt actually does things, rather than being nothing more than a bureaucrat/politico/pontificator.
It was Monty who undermined Schumacher and forced him out.
It was Monty who, as a scabby butt-boy to Enzo 35 years ago, tried to throw his weight around at GPs and intimidate stewards.
It is Monty who has kept running on and on, like a sore that won't heal, about the "injustice" that Ferrari suffered during '07 - even after the kangaroo court nearly destroyed the team that was beating his own.

905 issue is well known about. Another rule circumvention - IIRC they shipped the wrecked car back to Paris for a "rebuild" after the practice shunt....

I won't be sorry to see Todt go - the team will revert to standard Ferrari chaos within a couple of years, especially if they follow a design dead-end (Byrne's influence will be greatly missed too).

If Todt leavesthe group as a whole, I do wonder whether we might see him and his son move into team ownership?

No one will take Todt on
or perhaps only for the Fezza information he could bring to a new team

I hope Massa enjoys his last season with Ferrari in 2008 before making way for Alonso in 2009... Monty will get his way!

After all the cheating that Ferrari have "got away with" thanks to the FIA turning a blind eye over the years, I can't believe Montezuma is still harping on about McLaren/Stepney, etc.

Maybe Ron cry-baby Dennis should pull out of the fast lane aswell.
Make way for someone fresh who wont wobble at title winning moments or leave drivers out on canvas tryes. Im old, but I cant remember McLaren without Dennis.

Thing is ,who would replace him? Hamilton recons he will be lead driver next season, maybe he could manage the team too. In fact Hamilton Mercedes F1 has a ring to it.

I think Ron has already said he would make way for Martin Whitmarsh when the time is right. Ron has acted with a large amount of dignity this year and I personally don't think he should hand over to MW yet.

You must be mid to late 20s then, as I'm only 34 and I remember the pre-RD days.

Or you have Alzheimer's. Might be best if you go and see a doctor.

If you were to look up the McLaren years without Dennis, you would see that, starting in 1966 from a hole-in-the-wall near Heathrow, the team won two F1 Drivers' Championships, one F1 Constructors', five Can-Am Championships, and two Indy 500s. Most teams would have loved to have had such a record, even if now some people cannot remember it.

Since Ron took the helm, they've won seven more Drivers' titles, seven more Constructors', Le Mans 24 hrs, plus all the winning that they did this year.
Not bad for a wobbler.

You might be interested in a new DVD soon to be launched that will have a lot of the early McLaren days in it. I've been waiting for a very long time for something like this to be available having been a massive Can Am fan for as long as i can remember.

It should be out in December some time, they are going to email me the details of where it can be purchased. http://www.canamfilm.com/

Hows about that for OT. wink

Yep, M. Alliot allegedly left a perfect 905-shaped impression in the wall at the Porsche curves and the tub was wrecked, but had been "repaired" in time for the race. Everyone knew it was a new tub: but it was Peugeot, at Le Mans...
