Montagny for Toyota - he's long overdue a drive.

Paffet for McLaren - there was a lot of indecision at McLaren to do with whether Gary or Lewis got the 2007 seat, now they can have both for 2008.
Here here!
Having raced with / against both Gary and Lewis in karts, I think that an all British line up at McLaren would be cracking. Also Gary is highly regarded by Mercedes after his stints in the DTM for them so that might help him over De La Rosa.

Yes, Mansell won the title at 39 but that was 15 years ago and right now Honda are hardly where Williams were in '91 are they, so I don't seem them producing the 2008 equivalent of the FW14B? And who was the last man to race in F1 over the age of 40?
That would be Mansell again, who was aged 41 when he drove his two races for McLaren in 1995.

Which he blew big time.

Although I don't doubt he's still got speed. He was pretty competitive in the oldies racing (whatever it was called), and his stint in the reasonably priced car on top gear he pulled out a stellar lap.

Reckon that MS is a hard core racer at heart, he'd relish the challenge of going into a mid-tier team, and trying to bring them up to speed.

There ya go...

adoer admitted he was not surprised by Schumacher's pace.

"I'm not surprised, I know him, he is a superhero," the Italian added. "Everybody knows he is the fastest driver in the world, so I don't see what upsets that can cause.

"Raikkonen is quick too, but Schumi in his career has demonstrated to be something else."

Kind of says it all, stick in a gallon of petrol whilst the others are doing test runs rofl
So what did they do today to make Schumi go even faster? Take the gearbox out? biggrin

MS is the daddy of them all.

He was way older than MS is now...in fact I think he was roughly MS's age when he started?

Yeah, you don't win 7 world titles by driving like a wr.

He could still compete at the very top level for a few years yet if he felt like it. That's the only question mark really. Does he feel like it?

Don't forget that Mansell came back to Williams at the end of 1994, winning the final race of that season in Australia, and out-qualifying both Damon Hill and and the oh-so-wonderful (not) Michael Schumacher in the process...

It depends on how much you believe in conspiracy theories, and how badly Ferrari need the publicity. Who knows how light the car was, what fuel they were using, or how big the engine was....

Or maybe he's just pretty quick?
Most of those fastest times are on Qual fuel loads anyway. Ok, they could have run underweight with zero ballast, but I don't think Ferrari need to resort to that sort of thing to top the time sheets. The quickest car and a 'respectable' driver is all they need. Underweight PR laps are the kind of thing backmarker teams do in the winter to drum up a bit of sponsorship.

I would have been a lot more surprised if he was off the pace.

Why does Schumacher have to have the car with only a gallon of petrol and devices which aren't legal? Surely every car there is running race setups then qualifying set ups then light ones then heavy ones and at the same time, trying new things?

Why, to all the doubters, does every other car there have full fuel but it's only schumacher who's running light? Why can't the 7 times world champion just be a bit quick?

Love him or loath him, you can not say he is anything other than a totaly commited superb driver of the highest order, with dedication to the task that most wannabe champions can only dream about!

Exactly.

I have no doubt that with the same car and fuel, the rested Schumi would be quicker than ANYONE.

Totally agree. I think he's superb. Some of the things he's done have been at the very least "questionable", and he can be a bit of an arse....but he's 7 times world champion. SEVEN TIMES! You do not, will not and cannot achieve that by being anything other than supremely talented and have a totally selfish streak inside you. If you didn't, you won't be a good racing driver Jenson.
