Who would you have?
Discussion
So, since the demise of the 'dream team' at Ferrari the perceived "geniuses" in the pit lane has been rather spread out amongst all the teams, instead of in a 'big two' or 'big three'
If you were a team boss who would you think is most crucial to a successful team?
Adrian Newey - Red Bull
Geoff Willis - Red Bull
Ross Brawn - Honda
Pat Symonds - Renault
Fernando Alonso - On the dole
Lewis Hamilton - McLaren
Nigel Stepney - Currently Banished
Aldo Costa - Ferrari
Personally, out of the lot I'd want Brawn. A ship without a decent captain is in the rocks...

The great thing about it is that you can't just pick a name from the list - being human, they need suitable conditions. So Newey needs freedom, Alonso attention and Brawn a muse, for example. Put them all in the same team and you'd have a big row.
Quite true, but say for example you're a billionaire who's just bought Super Aguri. You have a budget for the team that allows one person from the list with the conditions they require in order to improve the team's fortunes.
Who are you going to choose?

Using the time-honoured deduction method,Who are you going to choose?
Adrian Newey - better as a free spirit, inspiring a team of designers and would need a medium-large team to be able to cope with the complexity of his concepts (eg: Toro Rosso's struggles this year)
Geoff Willis - He may have issues with Honda but did a good job before his replacement, profile isn't too high, gets on with it. A good choice.
Ross Brawn - Would need to team up with a promising driver, perhaps too early for the team.
Pat Symonds - Potential good choice - grew up with Toleman/Benetton/Renault. Would have the need to prove himself outside of that support network but maybe too set in those ways now? Perhaps I'm selling him short.
Fernando Alonso - Would need a car capable of winning and a drain on resources
Lewis Hamilton - See Alonso
Nigel Stepney - Unlikely to be allowed back into F1 but if he was, would have something to prove, but may need to be the centre of attention
Aldo Costa - Bit of an unknown still, needs to make more of a name for himself and prove it's him, not the rest of Ferrari. May have taken the title this year but it was more luck than judgement.

I would have said that Newey needs freedom, Brawn needs a muse, and Alonso needs a fuse.flemke said:

I would have said that Newey needs freedom, Brawn needs a muse, and Alonso needs a good kick up the arse and someone to tell him to stop whining like a girl and start doing his job.Gassing Station | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
