Thank god this TC Crap is now in the bin..Buttons comment

from test just concluded yesterday.
Button completed his two days of work and was pleased with the characteristics of his car without traction control.
"After a couple of hard weeks of physical training, it was a pleasure to be back driving again this week and starting our on-track preparations for the new season," said Button.
"This was the first time that I've driven the car with the new electronics system and it is a great feeling that you are properly in control of the car without having driver aids such as traction control".
They have had it easy for to long - let hope we see some drivers showing there skills next year and some no doubt should a lack of them

Out of interest, how is this going to work from an engineering point of view and be policed? I was under the impression that the FIA's reasoning for bringing in traction control was that electronic control of things like diffs made if virtually impossible to outlaw TC. How have things changed, and how are things being done now? Are the driver's really going to be "back in control"?
I wonder how this will effect engine development from now on in F1...will we see firing orders & such being played with in order to find increased traction similar to what happened in the mid 90`s in 500cc GP...or will any development in this area be buried in software codes in the engine managment..?

unlikely with the standardised ecu...FM said:

I would expect they'd have done this already. Even if you have traction control, the less you need to use it, the faster you'll be going.FM said:

What engine development!!!!!!!!! - the freeze has recently been imposed for a long time to come now (9 or 10 of the top of my head).jellison said:

No doubt Ferrari have stepped up development of their traction control, now it's banned an' all.
Yes - cos they are exemptFidgits said:

unlikely with the standardised ecu...Does this mean, come the end of the '08 season, McLaren could get the FIA to strip all the points from every other team for using their Intellectual Property?
massa has only ever driven (F1) with tc - the old hands and the young guys that have not long come out of lower formulae may have the upper hand for the first 1/4 of the year...
as for the engine freeze, it's a proposal by the FIA made as a bargaining point to get something else they want - no-one, including max / bernie / FIA, and certainly the manufacturers, want to see a 10 year freeze

I'm glad that TC has gone - means the cars won't sound like wet farts in the corners
I think that a few drivers will struggle next year with out it - and I'm thinking Lewis will be one of them, he's been fairly hard on his tyres this season (with TC) as he likes the back to slide - which as we know sideway's isn't the fastest way.
Think Button will do OK (providing Honda give him a good car).
Have they also got rid of 'Launch Control'?? or is the computer still in charge of that?
Chris
