Timo Glocks signs the deal today - so they are a alot drivers playing musical chairs
but only 4 sears left

Adrian Sutil is under contract to the former Spyker team for 2008 but they are rumours of a seat at Mclaren also Ralf Schumacher, Fisichella, Liuzzi, Klien and Fairuz Fauzy are all up for those seats !

Think Force might be in a good bargaining positioning !!

Renault also have Kovalainen, Piquet Jr and Alonso, You'd think that Flav will want Kovalainen and Alonso and keep Piquet as the 3rd driver
but Alonso won't sign until the outcome of the Renault spying case is heard

So maybe De La Rosa will have a race seat at Mclaren ?

With no disrespect to the man, I just can't see it.
Maybe there is an outside chance the de la Rosa is being pressed upon McLaren by the Spanish sponsors, although one would think that there is now a queue of British would-be sponsors who would like to be associated with Hamilton and would readily replace the Spanish.
I suppose it is possible that McLaren would think of starting the season with DLR in a race seat, but bringing in a new man to substitute part-way through the series.

One suspects that Ron has already lined up what he's going to do, or at least controls the situation in the sense that the options are in his hand.

Hey Flemke

I can't see DLR getting the seat either - but surely Mclaren won't take on an unproven driver like Sutil - ok he's respected but he's never been really tested

Fisichella and even Schumacher seem more likely signings ?
They'll need someone who's got the experience

What about that Spaniard - Alonso - hear he needs a seat for next year

It was interesting to read Peter Windsor's (IIRC) article in which he wrote that, for the second half of the year, if anything McLaren went out of their way to favour Alonso (such as by always having the T-car set up for Alonso), and even then the Paranoid One believed that he was getting the short end of the stick.

Kovalainen seems the most likely choice, although it's not inconceivable that a driver who has been "confirmed" already for another team would end up in Australia in an MP4-23.

Yep, wouldn't discount a signed driver. As much as i would like to see Williams as a front runner again but they could do with the big cash injection that would come from a contract buy out. wink

Has Button signed for Honda? could we see him slip-sliding his way out of yet another contract before the new season?

If we're lucky Alonso might not get a drive at all next year. I think a few teams may see him as a bit of a liability.

As much as I'd like to see the whingeing git hung out to dry, I can't see Flav letting that happen.

Still think it'll be Renault, with an outside chance of Red Bull (with Flav taking his other boy Webber to Renault as a swop).

Would that be a sponsor's dream?
That would be a British sponsor's dream, but Hamilton on his own is about as exciting a dream as a British sponsor could expect ever to have.
In the context of a sport with global visibility and aspirations, having two British drivers with a British entrant is aiming at a narrow audience.
I should think that, other things being equal, big sponsors would much prefer to have a driver from any other country with a large and growing consumer market to which they might appeal, in addition to the British market that is already sewn up.

I think everyone said at the begining of this that it would be a straight swap with Alonso for Kovalainen and by Flav's comments today, that would seem 99% confirmed

Still don't see Alonso signing until the Dec 5 tribunal is over and done with

That would presume that the verdict for the Renault case has not already been decided. scratchchin

(Ps: I think it's the 6th.)

so sick of the FIA BS - biased, unjust and it's proven time after time
How can you have Flav and Bernie as business partners and then have a neutral governing body

That deserves one on these

rofl

Not in a cynical way, more in a 'thank god I'm not the only one that think that way' way.

Autosport reporting that Flav thinks it's 60% that Alonso will be at Renault next year.

So who will be at McLaren next year???
Just listen to the Autosport podcast and basically they reckon that who ever goes it could be the end of their career because Lewis is so good.

Over on Alonso's "fan" site, they ran a survey and 33% of his worshippers still think he's going to Ferrari in 2008 and pushing Massa out(despite a contract). Their latest news item is that an "anonymous" engineer at McLaren has said they are already missing him as he was such a great help blah blah.

How cynical of you!

There are many precedents in international sport for what they are doing with QPR, such as:

- when Bernie owned Brabham and also was the organiser of all of F1,
- when Briatore ran Renault and was the manager for drivers on other teams, such as Alonso, Fisichella and Webber,
- when the chief regulator said that Ferrari were more important than the other entrants...

er, wait, all those things happened in Formula One, didn't they?

Oh, well, there is always the World Wrestling Federation.

No doubt Alonso contributed something valuable to the team. The problem was that he also contributed something damaging to the team, and that was disproportionate to the valuable part.

Yep if you read between the lines of the internal politics at Ferrari - i wouldn't be surprised if he's already signed up with Ferrari for 2009.

Braun leaving - Todt getting pushed out - I think even with the FIA backing, Ferrari are heading back to the bad old days (or good depending on yr point of view) of their typical Italian business / sporting ways - no offense to Italians - i love the place - but I'd never have a business there.
