You may well be right there.

Steve's helmet was mid metallic blue, as I recall, and this is visible in the first photo, whereas the later photos seem to show a white(?) helmet.

What colour was Gerry's usual helmet?

In 87 Dad had two white bell Helmets, one open face with Gerry in red written on the brow and the second was closed with Gerry in blue written across the brow. IIRC at the race I went to at Donington he wore the open face one. He also track-tested the car for Classic & Sports Car (I think), I can check when I get home.
