Any Tuscan racers from the early days?
Discussion
Dear All, I need help; I am trying to clarify what the format of the TVR Tuscan Challenge was in the early days.
From 1989 to 1993 the races were just one race events at meetings and it was in 1994 that they became two races per meeting. Is this correct?
And whilst I'm asking, is their an archive of all the races, dates, circuits, drivers, results etc?

Hi Gregor,
I have the Tuscan Challenge car that Gerry raced in 1989 and 1990 for David Gerald TVR Sportscars and with the car is some of its history thanks to Mark Waldron, one of the previous owners. I have result sheets for the car driven by Gerry in 1989 an 1990 and it looks like you are right in thinking that there was one race only. The information was supplied by Martin Hawden at “Motor Racing Archives and Research” back in 1996. The contact details back then were as follows: 86 Ranelagh Road, Felixstowe, Suffolk IP11 7HY. Tel: 01394 278198. Fax: 01394 278198. Mobile 0505 792343. Email: 101614,3306@compuserve.com
I have copied these records and will post them to you if you let me have your contact details. I like your web site but it needs some pictures of Gerry in a TVR, preferably the Tuscan. Is there anybody out there who can oblige with pictures? Gerry Jinks or Dave Field should have some pictures in their collection it would be great to have one for the archives. If either of you can oblige please get in touch.
Good luck with the motor racing and developing the web site especially with history about your dad who was a great inspiration to anyone interested in motor sport. I was privileged to meet him and will never forget how friendly he was.

Thanks for the info, that's great, I'll try contacting Martin. Is it the yellow or white Tuscan you have? I'm fairly sure the first ever Tuscan Dad raced was almost immediately sold and made road legal and hill-climbed. This one I think, which must be your car:-I have the Tuscan Challenge car that Gerry raced in 1989 and 1990 for David Gerald TVR Sportscars and with the car is some of its history thanks to Mark Waldron, one of the previous owners. The white one is this one (am at work and this is the only image I have here, sorry:-
If you could let me have copies of the results/etc you have that would be fantastic and am happy to pay any costs incurred. I only have record of three Tuscan races in '90 and none in '89. I have loads in '91, two in '92 and seven in '94 but I know there's more and I want to check which events were double-headers and which were one race events.
This was the 91/92 car (started white in '91 and then painted halfway through the season):-
94 car:-
Thanks for the comments on the website, I'll add a Tuscan picture to the Gallery section. Any particular car you want adding? I did add some of the above photos to another thread on here, even some of the two-seater:-
Thanks for the kind words on Dad and the best wishes, so far I have 900 races recorded and over 350 victories and I know I have loads more information at home, so am confident of getting the 623 wins in total.

Gregor, you have made my day with the pictures, What a great picture of Gerry with the yellow Tuscan and yes, that is the one I now own and my obvious choice for your web site. The car was indeed used for hill climbing and sprinting after it was sold in 1991 and continues to do so with many class wins to its credit. The car was registered for the road in 1998 but basically remains in race trim except for the location of the fuel tank and the addition of a passenger seat. It is a great thrill to drive, made more thrilling with the knowledge that I am grappling with the same race car as the great man himself.

That's not a fair question!! She's coming on well though, taking a bit longer than planned but at least that means she's being done right. If I get a chance I'll try and get some pics over Christmas and update my website a bit with some new information.Rocket 88 said:

Glad I got the right one and was a good excuse to post the others too!! I'll add a picture of your car on the website when I get home. I seem to remember the car wasn't raced in the Tuscan Challenge for very long and I bet it's a best on the hills and especially the roads!!Great to hear that enjoy driving it and appreciate it's history; Dad loved the Mk1 Tuscans, much more so than the latter Mk2 cars, so good ot hear it's still original.
