BBC said:
Ralf Schumacher has thrown his hat into the ring to fill the McLaren Formula One drive vacated by Fernando Alonso. "It's no secret that the seat at McLaren-Mercedes is by far the most coveted there is," the 32-year-old German told Bild am Sonntag newspaper.
Frankly I can't think of anything more yawn-making than Ralf in a McLaren. I hope McLaren's sponsors feel that way too!

I think this might be old news from about 3 weeks ago, and Norbert Haug was quick to dismiss it when asked the question.

Hamilton wouldnt complain,,,a second driver that wont get in the way or win races. Mercedes probably wouldnt raise a German eyebrow either. Never say never.

I believe this is old news. Apparently Ralfie's manager rang Ron after the announcement re Alonso to see if Ralfie's hat was likely to be in the ring and the answer was a very emphatic "NO!" Small mercies and all that.

Is Ralf Schumacher desperate or delusional?
In his case, are the two conditions mutually exclusive?

If Ralf thinks he has a chance then maybe I should throw my hat in too?

I don't think you can place that bet, but I wouldn't rule it out.

I'm pretty sure I floated this idea some weeks ago. What do McLaren have to lose if Ralf's price is right? He can win races and is a fast driver when motivated and comfortable with the car.

I don't know whether the McLaren will suit his driving traits better than the Toyota though, but as we saw with JPM and Raikkonen, Mclaren do seem to be able to "tune" the car to suit a particular driver's preferences.

Placing him in a McLaren just doesn't feel right. There's a bit of bagagge with Ralf IMO.

What are Rons options ?

I don't think McClaren will be short of offers for next year. I think half the grid would jump ship if asked, let alone a driver from outside F1.

Sadly, I feel that most of the grid are contractually tied to their existing teams and I also do not see Mclaren offering the second seat to someone outside of F1.

Contracts be damned! I can't see anyone from a low order team passing up a chance to drive a McClaren. I agree they are unlikely to take someone without F1 race experience.
