Mercedes are looking to get their performance division AMG to run their own cars in FI in 2009
Prob hoping that Max may leave them alone if Ron not involved.

Mercedes are not to happy as it is nine years since they last won the championship. It quotes that the racing arm of AMG which is HWA to run it backed by the middle east backers that would have gone with Prodrive.

If it's true it MAY be due to Prodrive pullig out. I wonder how much work had already gone into supplying the Prodrive cars and so they felt they might as well do it themselves?

Of course I could be talking bollox!

I also noticed on the same site that Mercedes have broken off talks with Fiat regarding them building the replacement for the A-class together. These have been going on for some time now and may be the reason that they did not pursue the fight regarding the FIA ruling to strongly as not wanting to upset the Fezza parent company as future partners.

Talking about high performance car makers, why doesn't Ford, Lambo, Porsche, or VW have a go at F1?

I know Ford used to be involved, but I think Lambo (if they can raise the money), or perhaps a Porsche/VW alliance could take a decent crack at it.

Well, Lambo is owned by Audi/VAG who repeatidly say they have no intention of going into F1. And Porsche have always only really been interested in Sports Car racing, as well as being tied in with VAG anway in a sort of way, so again the above would apply.

There is no way in the world that Wiedeking would dig a huge money pit such as Formula One is.
Porsche make racing cars (Cup, RSR and Spyder) for profit. The marketing value is just a bonus to them, not the end in itself.

They did but the project was paid for by TAG Engineering and Mansour Ojjeh the CEO and now 20% owner of McLaren. He introduced Porsche and made the whole deal happen.

I agree - I think it would be very unlikely that they would make a business case for Porsche entering F1, even including marketing contribution....

....unless, of course, someone else were to pay for it all!

As far as I can tell by adding up the points allocated, yes, the McLaren with a Mercedes engine won the constructors championship this year.

Also, after one adjusts the results to disallow points for illegal cars, their driver won the WDC as well.
