Nah !
Too soon, we have not had a chance to see his personality yet, but as this is not really a personality contest and is a popularity contest he may well win it, I would go for one of the boxers though, and if Hatton wins on Sat he could poll enough votes to pip Hamilton.

Yeah as much as a talent Hamilton clearly is I'll be voting for a Sportsperson who won their "Championship". For me it's Hatton or Toseland. If you hear Hamilton speak nowadays he's got the 2008 Championship sewn up so he can have it next year...

Sorry, ed this up. Tried to move it to General Gassing.
Never mind. This was the original post:

Best programme of the year this weekend IMHO!
Those of us who have been through international competition know just how much commitment and pain you go through to get near to the top. Just watch their faces.
And I understand that each and everyone on the BBC shortlist is a thoroughly deserving pure-bloodied competitor; making any choice of one over the other never seems right.
Certainly I'd like to support Toseland as much as any and I'm sorry not to see Andy Priaux on the list as a 3/4 year international world champion.
But what we PHers have witnessed in Hamilton's arrival in F1 is a genuine sporting phenomenon. He has internationally raised the motor racing profile to a new level with splendid rub off for the UK blah-di-blah. His racing talent and personality is extraordinary and in the face of the crap we get from the FIA, whose presence frankly guarantees the write off of F1 as far as I'm concerned, Hamilton I hope continues to flourish.
I hope everyone enjoys supporting their sporting heroes on the night, but I hope many too, in the excellent offices of PH find time to support one of the few consistent world beating performers we have in the whole auto world stage.
As good as they all are, I hope Hamilton comes out on top. (Your vote will count).

Ricky Hatton if he wins, or maybe even someone that won somthing like Andy Priaulx who is Britain's most successful current racing driver, or another winner Toseland.

Very true though - none of the other contenders have transcended their sport - viewing figures in this country have gone up, people who don't know anything about F1 talk about him...surely the definition of a sports personality?

Anyone who saw his humility in the presence of Vivienne Senna at the Autosport Awards or his down-to-earth banter with Clarkson on Top Gear can see that he isn't a faceless automaton.

Well, its been pretty obvious from the get-go that he is anything but. I think he has bags of personality, but unfortunately comes over as rather too self-important to be immediately likeable.

For the first time ever I prefer Kimi's approach.

Based on year long performance, available resources for competing, overall achievements there are plenty of other better candidates in other sports but the Sun readers will doubtless prevail

one fall, one submission or a knockout?
