Err Formula Renaults (since 1995) run a 2 litre engine with the earlier cars being an 8V engine and the later cars running a 16V engine with sequential box.
Apart from the usual websites try autosport or Dermot Healy as he normally has one or two (his details are on the monoposto website)

I think Leigh is refering to the World Series renault car. Not really a club racer, A little more technical than plugs and points..!

I have seen the Renault world series cars at Donington a season or two back but have never seen one for sale or racing in clubbie motorsport.
I imagine even Santa may be a bit hard pressed to lay his hands on one but if you are serious about buying one - try Jonathan Lewis at Comtec (google for them) as they run a team in the championship.
I cannot imagine what you could do with such a car - I guess Euroboss but it would seem a better investment to buy an old F1 car.

This was my concern. They're just not suitable for anything much it seems. After 08, the ealier cars won't be accepted in BARC either, so the only options would be mono or f4. It's just too restrictive. I have to think about selling it on at some point. The FVL is a whole lot more attractive in that respect, but that too I'm learning, is quite restricted as to where you can use it. Although I was really set on something like this, my head is saying FF1800. Cheaper, more competions and defiantely easier to sell (no wings though frown ) Shame, but there you go.

I have to say I don't follow your argument that the FVL is eligible for more championships than the F Renault. The long term future of both cars is F4 and Mono and possibly SEMSEC - hence why they are now fairly good value.

It seems to me that they are about the same performance although they achieve it in rather different ways. The F Renault is a much later design (especially a nice Tatuus 96 - 99) although the car is a tight squeeze unless you have a racing snake shape.

As the saying goes you pays your money and takes your choice...

I may have contradicted myself a bit there. The F.Ren is very restricted it seems and the FVL isn't far behind it at all. I'm sure they're both superb to drive, but resale is a worry for me on both counts.

I think you are probably worrying too much about the later re-sale value of the car - I suspect the F renault will hold its value better as it is eligible for F4 and FVL is not and this is a very popular series.

If you were looking for a potential winning car they seem to cost about £15k for a Jonathan Lewis spec F4 or Mono car. If you look around I suspect you could buy a F Renault for £7 - £8k and a FVL a bit cheaper. In racing car terms this is not much and many of your competitors will spend more than the value of the car running it each season.

The cars are also used for sprinting and seem to sell easily enough so long as you ask sensible money for them.
Without seeming too depressing unless you can afford to destroy the car and hence not worry about re-sale value too much you may find the sport a little upsetting when someone involves you in their accident.
I think the first time I went out in my old F Renault in Mono at Mallory someone spun their car in the S bend, the car directly in front of me was able to avoid and the first I knew was hitting the spinning car - the damage cost nearly £4k.

The other cheap alternative is a Zetec Spec FF - no wings but £4k buys one.

At £6-7K for an FVL I really wouldn't worry too much about resale value - as long as the car is still in reasonable condition when you come to sell, and aren't very silly with the asking price, it will go to someone. I don't see the FVL not being eligible for Mono or SEMSEC any time soon, especially now that the Mono Classic Challenge sub class has been dreated. IIRC, I sold mine to someone for £4650 & that was a scruffy car with damaged front right suspension. Remember, also, that at those sorts of prices (which in reality is not much for a single seater & probably represents the best performance per £ in club motorpsort) the engine and gearbox alone is probably worth circa £2-3k so you should always be able to get that back, even if you trash the rest of the car.

Buy the car, learn a lot, enjoy it and get on with it!
